Thought I'd post a few pics of a few of the lockbacks I have purchased. Some are ones I've had for quite a few years however most are recent purchases made since April or May of this year

I also have a question about the Buck 317 I'm working on replacing the scales. One side of the 317 still has the one scale on it and it looks to be pretty solidly mounted to the frame of the knife. I have thought about using a cutting wheel on it as I think it might be easier to seperate the scale and remove it from the frame.

I want to be able to remove the scale and not damage the pin for the spring. After I get the scale off I plan on trimming the spring pin then using the scale to retain it in place in the frame.

Is there a solvent that I could use to help soften or remove any glue that is holding the scale on the 317?.

Heya Wally!

When you are typing something in the text box, like you have, look at the top left of that text box...you will see a bunch of little icons. Mouse over the 2nd one from the left, it should say Image. Click on that, and you can post pictures that folks can see. :) Hope it helps!

Re: scale removal

The method I use implements a wood chisel. Position the chisel such that the cutting edge of the chisel is @ the transition between the scale material & the liner ..such that.. the flat edge is against the liner i.e. the bevel side is facing the liner side. I use a wooden mallet & lite taps to separate the two .. scale from liner. It is suggested to remove the "head" of the pin before doing this .. just file the enlarged portion of the pin away. Adhesives do not present an issue.

There are some pics & procedure listed HERE that may help.

"Removed the scales with a 1/2" wood chisel & the wooden mallet. I supported the ends of the knife ..then.. placed the chisel such that the flat side was next to the liner. Gently tapped it with the mallet & the scales popped off intact with no damage to the liners."

Steve thank you for the tip on posting the pictures. D ale thank you for the link on replacing the scales and Where did you get that wooden vice? or did you build it. I'd really like to know.
