Serrated edge knives...... Needed Really?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jan Carter on Wednesday. 14 Replies

As you can see by the title I'm not a serrated edge knife fan. I can see having a serrated knife to use for slicing bread but as for other uses. No thanks I'll pass. I remember when the Ginsu knives…Continue

KutMaster Stockman or maybe no

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jan Carter Mar 27. 1 Reply

In the small collection of knives that I have one is a Kutmaster that looks like a Stockman 3 blade. At first glance that is what it appears to be. The knife is in very bad shape as the main blade…Continue

"Well it depends what you're cutting. From what I've been told serrated edges on nautical knives work better on synthetic lines whereas a fine edge is better on natural fiber. I also know that bait knives come with a fine edge and a…"

"I worked as an electrician for most of my life. I always carried a knife that partially serrated. I didn't have the time to spend sharpening a knife as often as I do now.  No matter how dull the main edge got, the serrated part was always…"

So much knowledge

There is just so much knowledge here about knives. The different styles. The history, different ways of sharpening knives. I could spend hours here just reading about collections or how a particular style knife came about and Collectable knives. At times the info here is just overwhelming as there is so much of it. Spending time here has made me aware of what type knives I myself like as to use and what catches my eye as to it being collectable to me.  I like the Carbon steel blade knives and…See More

"A friend of mine posted on FB recently a nice looking knife and asked about serrations. I'm personally not a fan as I feel they do not provide a clean cut. I have bought a couple in my day and only use one. It is in my mud room and I use it for…"

"I never thought about using a knife with the serrated edge for anything except in the kitchen. I never bought any and really did not give them a second thought until I sat down and really looked at the knives I had collected over the years, that…"

"Knives with serrations are better for tearing than for cutting, most of the time anyway.  I was more into knives with partial serrated edges when I first got into knives as a hobby.  Frankly they seem to work better than plain edges when…"
