Jakob Herder Sod Buster (maybe?)
I recently bought a batch of knives for parts or repair, and this one had more rust on it than barnacles on the Queen Mary. But in removing the rust, I discovered the blade stamp for "Jakob Herder echt Stohl." Even more fun is the fact that this company exists nowhere in Google Land. All I have found to date is Friedrich Herder, a cutler that started in the late 1600s. If you or anyone has a clue to offer about the origins of this knife I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I am going to give you a link to read but the main part is what we hear from the Herder company families.
The name HERDER is an old German word and means Hardener (someone who hardendes things)this name is still very common here in Solingen as in old days around 1600-1800 many families were working in the knife business.All these companies have been independent knife producer and in old days there has been a lot of competition and fights about Brand rights all over the world....It very well may be this was a small shop, lost to history.

What a HUGE help this is, despite the lack of a specific reference to Jakob Herder. If it was a small company as you suggest, all the better. "Extremely rare" makes it the coolest knife in my small, just started collection. Thank you very much, Jan.
