Good to have you here, Alan -- & great way to start a collection!  Certainly feel free to explore the site -- I'd recommend starting with the groups.  And of course feel free to ask questions.  I'm not likely to know much about the older knives your grandfather may have collected, but I'd bet a lot of people on this site know quite a lot about them (I'm int more contemporary knives myself).  Regardless, welcome to iKC!
