Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hello,

I'm looking into buying a Case stag handled bowie and am having an awful time finding any prices. I have most of the best Case collecting books, am a member of DBknife.com and have several friends I've contacted. Just found this site a few days ago and hope ya'll can be of assistance on this and future inquires.

I've been collecting for over 40 years so I hopefully can be of some assistance to others.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jeff - welcome to iKC! We're glad you're here.

So if I understand you correctly - you want to buy a Case 1836 bowie in stag, but are not finding any for sale, therefore not finding any prices, correct?

I found several 1836's all non-stag selling from $325-499, so I would imagine that a stag version would bring in $50-100 more in the price.... depending on offering (meaning with orig box, papers, condition, etc.).

I did not know these ever came in stag - but I found a couple in different packaging than what you are showing, each sold for $450.00.

I hope this helps you in determining what to expect for pricing...

Hey Lars,

Thank you for the welcome. I've found a lot of knife collecting folks are some of the best.

You are correct in you second statement. Not able to find any comparable in stag. They did come in different packaging. Thank you very much for your help. I'm glad you found what I couldn't. That helps a lot. I really appreciate you spending your time to help.

I hope I can be of assistance to someone on this site. I do have a decent knowledge of Case knives. I don't consider myself an expert but you do pick up quite a bit in over 40 years of messing with them.

Thank you again and have a blessed day

Yea - there are a lot of Case bowies in stag on Ebay, but not the 1836. The two I found sold were from auction houses. There was one sold on Etsy in 2015 for $350...awful shape for the money so I didn't even include that in my assessment.

Putting myself in your shoes, I would expect to pay anywhere between $450 - $550 for the stag in a clean original packaging with all the papers, never carried or sharpened, near mint (allowing for natual aging of course).

So...with all that said, do you already have the classic black-handled 1836 in your collection? I wasn't sure if the photo examples you provided were yours or stock photos.

Thank you for another helpful message.

I do have the black-handled 1836. The photo is of the actual knife I want to buy. I can't get the seller to even respond to a message.

I really appreciate your help. I sent him a message with an offer. Maybe he will respond soon.

Your info has been really helpful. Thank you

Have a blessed evening.
