There's a knife company that makes knives from files. www.anzaknives.com/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybMDdLpMAvQ

I don't own one, but may order one eventually, because it's supposed to be good hard steel. They re-temper the file and make a knife blade out of it.

ANZA makes some GREAT knives from files .. I don't believe that is what is pictured .. the pic appears something more along the lines of something someone created w/i the re-enacting environment.

@ James .. I do own one .. bought it used @ a gun show .. tis a great little knife .. nothing but good things to say about it !!!

ANZA's current production  GRIZZLY  looks interesting !!! Based on that approach .. I put a single bevel edge on the file of the mini- multi-tool of me keychain .. WHOLEE SHTZKEE .. I think it'll cut / slice / hack / saw  through .......... suffice it to say .. an effective cutting tool !!!

Anthony, check out my photo's I just posted two knives made from files during WWII by my dad. Very sharp stiletto type blades.

About 35 years ago, One of my Gun Shop customers was, David Burge, from New Germany Minn. I had a old forage I was selling, and he was interested. He asked me, 'How Much', I scratched my head, then grabbed a wore out file from the bench, and a piece of Red Elm, from the wood pile, and said: "Make me a knife".  He did, this is it. It's about 8" long, blade about 5/8" deep, and about 1/16" thick

For 20 years or so, it was my, 'patch', knife. (Cutting a patch off at the muzzle, after loading a round ball, in a muzzle loader).  Now, It sits on my desk, and openers letters.

David became known, (locally) for making a good quality knife. About 30 years ago he moved to somewhere in North, New Mexico area.  Have lost touch with him.

This is one of the first knives he made.

A wood rasp makes a fine knife also.

Cool knives!

I picked up ANZA's Grizzly & it is SWEET !!!

After annealing .. one side is left alone .. more or less.

The other side has a hollow grind introduced .. with a nice utility edge to finish it off.

The resulting teeth are amazing. I'm not a fan of serrated edges ..HOWEVER.. this is great !!!

Wow, I really like that one!!

I make one from used up nicholson files every now and then. They can work out pretty nice.

I have some Nicholson files. I think they'll stay files. I'll leave the skilled knife making stuff to you guys! LOL!

I am with you Craig!  I love the Anza's and the file knifes can be awesome but not for me to make one LOL

I understand the reheat treat and the grinding can be a bit tough
