I know we are all into cutting things here but, do you ever just buy a knife cause it looks cool? If so, what kind was it? And what was it about the knife's looks you liked? Post pic if you can.

A user knife is good, but last week I got a Spyderco Phoenix for graduation and I absolutely love it. I'm a little scared to carry it as an edc because its so nice and expensive, but its a great knife.

i will buy a knife for look's if the company has a good rep... or cheapo's jest to beat on... i will never use an expensive knife to baton with or throw or get dirty...
yeah, Britt- do, so we can see what cool looking Bucks back in the'70's looked like.
Seamus- now that is one fancy looking knife.- looks like a gentleman's dress knife.

Don't laugh, but I've bought Frost knives for their looks.
I bought the Spyderco Poliwog and the Dodo just because I think the ball locks are cool. I think your Phoenix is cool as hell.
I have a real weakness for the Chad Los Banos Bokers in black. Most are good users too, but I buy them 1st because I like the looks of them & think they are cool.

I was big time into Bokers a few years ago. They made some really cool yearly knives and limited editions- I had one with ivory handles and another in jade- wish I hadn't ever sold them now :(
That's how I got started collecting Seahorse Whittlers. And Sway Back Jacks.

Looks drives me to have an itch for going off in directions my commom sense says, "What the heck are you doing?"
But my latest itch- thank goodness I can't find one-

or I'd settle for this-

Now you know how I got into old toenails :)
yes and no. there are absolutely no good knife shops where i live. they all sell cheap shit, or mostly buck knives with an extremely small collection of spyderco knives. just about every knife i own comes from the internet, so basically i buy my knives based on brand, steel, edge grind, and looks. usually the steel and edge grind will bring me to a particular brand or several brands, and i pick which one i want based on looks. however, my taste in knife styles are very simple. i like clean lines and simple elegant handles as far as looks go. an example being fallkniven f1 or bark river bravo 1. though as far as folding knives go, i like a wide range of designs.

however, function definitely overrides physical appearance. for example my usual EDC is a sog flash 1, for its compact size, ultra light weight, and the deep carry pocket clip. however, while i love the blade, i think the handle is butt ugly!
Just a few pictures of knives that caught my eye. Actually they held my eye hostage until I bought them! Lots more...
