Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

A few of us have been clamoring about knifes that we would like to see. Johnny Two Shoes would like a peanut and a traditional whittler. I would like a scout/utility knife and a traditional whittler. What would you folks like GEC to make next? I'd like one of those spiral cut Red Buffalo Horn Whalers too while we are wishing for things (but that is an existing pattern). I was looking at some of the camp/scout/utility knives that I already have by Camillus, Ulster, Utica, Western (see my photos if interested) and it would seem to me that GEC could make one like these fairly easily (yeah it's easy for me to say) out of their current #53/#54 frame. It might be hard to incorporate the corkscrew that I wanted in our "Gone Camping" discussion in this frame but those folks at GEC work wonders! I have an older Boker Camp knife (see my pics) that has all of the bells and whistles but it doesn't really match any existing patterns and is a beast of it's own.

So what do you all think? I'd be interested in suggestions of new knives and also the scales that you'd like to see on them.

I too would like to see a camp knife with nice jigged bone handles. Most times camp knives are made with some sort of plastic scales,so bone would be a nice change. If I can't have that, well then a swing guard lockback would be my next choice.Herb.

Herb,

I am with you, the scales on the camp knife would look great in bone, a more classic look. Stag or Elk would be great too.

I wouldn't mind a swing guard knife either. The head guys at GEC used to be at Queen and Schatt & Morgan used to make some pretty nice swing guards in their File & Wire series 5-10 years ago. That would be pretty exciting to see some of those come out from GEC! I bought a pair of S&M's for my son, one in Burnt Stag and one in an Orange Dimpled Corn Cob bone. I really liked the stag one, it was hard to send it to him, the stag was so nice. But it was Christmas after all! There are alot of swing guard fans out there and I wonder if the Ben Hogan could be modified to accomodate a swing guard. I have a few Queen City Cutlery Classic knives and one that I like is the English Jack in a dimpled green bone. It is a two blade, clip and pen but similar to the Hogan. Wonder if the Hogan could evolve into a two blade. I like Case's Copperhead which isn't too different from the QCCC knife that I mentioned above, not as long and thin, a bit stouter. I'm getting off course and rambling I guess!

I'm thinking that a Ben Hogan with a swing guard, would look a lot like a Schrade pushbutton knife. I'd be into one of those for sure. I'd like a sod buster..... I know, I know, the #73 is a lot like a sod buster, but it still isn't one. : )
How about a Moose patern, they don't make them very often.
I would love to see a GEC scout/utility with that acorn shield on it like the 1920s Remingtons before they became the "official" BSA knife.  I could do without the corkscrew, but would like a slightly larger knife than the junior scouts now being made by the folks in Bradford.  I can't wait to see what GEC would come up with as their version of a sleeveboard like "swayback jack!"  I love sambar stag, but it's getting to be too expensive for me these days as the reserves dry up.  I like the smooth banana bone and the versions of the purple bone that have been done.  Walnut sawcut is probably going to be my new stag.  Last fall, I had the opportunity to visit Suriname in South America and encountered tourist items (little boxes, carvings) made from snakewood.  That's a very nice looking wood on a knife that I see Great Eastern has used on some small models.  And, how can you go wrong with the traditional ebony and cocobolo?

J,

I would like to see a swayback also

Some good ideas there! Hope that GEC is watching this forum from time to time. Robert, there are still some nice Moose's and smaller #66 BJM's out there at different on-line dealers. Maybe GEC needs to come up with a Moose Head shield similar to the Beaver Tail and do it in Bubinga or Wenge Wood? I think the moose shield would be cool looking. But then Jan would have to get a Moose hide for her new moose collection! The swayback would be cool too. How about a railsplitter or would that be too copycat from S&M? Coke bottle or gunstock? If old traditional patterns are a prerequisite then a coke bottle fits the bill - you see several vintage ones on Ebay. What about introducing damascus? I don't want to see the pricetag on that knife! Maybe I could ride the bus for awhile....Hello ramen noodles!

Here is a thought Johnny shared on another part of the forum.  I moved it here because it seemed to get alot of positive thoughts in outdoor living and I dont know if GEC watches there

I would probably have GEC build me an all stainless, black micarta scaled, bowie style knife. It would have saw teeth on the spine, and a lanyard hole, fresh with paracord. It would probably have a 7'' cutting edge, and a 4'' handle. I think a scandi grind would be best for all the cutting and resharpening. Speaking of which, the micarta would be screwed into each other, removing the screw will expose a hollow for a GEC wet stone.

Thanks Jan, this would be the ultimate survival GEC blade. I could get by with a bit less, but who would want to?

Jan,

Sounds like fun, pretty nice but kind of similar to the Randall Astro. I'm sure that GEC would do it up nicely though, maybe not quite as stout of a blade as RMK. Maybe they could do two versions, a 7" one for you and a 5 1/2"-6" one for Johnny? Single or double hilt, with or without thumbnotches?

They need to make a pioneer Lockback, I think it's a model 23. They made the Scout twice but no Pioneer. I am the proud owner of a genuine stag #13 it needs a big brother.

Robert,

I agree with you on the #23 lockback. I wouldn't mind seeing a Hogan lockback either. With the success of the recent run of GEC #72 lockbacks I would like to see a few more runs of GEC's. Nice to get a 440C knife that I don't have to worry about getting pepper spots.
