The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Well we bought this one on Ebay and the seller is reputable. It is an awesome knife but has no tube with endcap or certificate with it. The gentleman we bought it from got it in a trade with a number of knives. Here is what we know...
It is a Great Eastern because it says Cyclops
The handle is wood but it is a very well stabilized wood
It is a 2006 or 2007 because it has no pattern numbers
Here are our guesses,
It could be an orphan knife, made early 2008 out of "left overs"
It could be rehandled, if so it is an awesome job
It could be an early factory test run
We will be taking it with us to the blade show to get Ken's opinion and we will take it to PA this summer for Bill's take on it. In the meantime it is a great knife and maybe one of you can help clear up our mystery

I saw that one one ebay. I thought it was something I hadn't seen before. Report back what you find out about it.
I will Russell. When we saw it on there I couldn't decide if it was wood or bone. If this is a rehandle it is some seriously quality scales and a person that know what they are doing
Hmmm, if I had an uneducated guess, it would be that the knife was rehandled.
But, I have no idea, it may be factory too. It's an interesting piece no doubt. Nice knife Jan!!!
Well I sent the pics to Chris and she says to follow the plan. Let Ken see it and bring for Bill to see. So we will keep you informed as we find out. One way or another it really is an awesome knife
Definitely Jan.
I think it's worth whatever it was paid for it. Great knife!!!
I don't know if it was rehandled or not, but Muskrat Man on AAPK does rehandle GEC's all the time. I wonder if this is some of his work? He does quality work...

Knifegirl,
That would one heck of a rehandler. I have had MM do a couple of Case seahorses for us and he does wonderful work. Your correct, this work would be the quality I would expect from him. So if Ken and Bill dont recognize it, I will send Caleb a pic and we will see if it is one of his. Thanks for the reminder :)
Robert,
I know it is not one of James but your correct, he has exceptional quality on the rehandles also.
Well, it is official. Chris, Pat, Ken and Ryan will all be in one spot at the Blade so I will be taking the mystery with me to see if anyone recognizes it
Well, you'll have the best people around you then.
If they can't figure it out, I guess you just got an awesome re-handled knife.
I think whoever did it, did a great job.
Johnny,
Your right, whoever did it did a fantastic job. It is a hickory Handled 23, one blade was removed. It was well worth what we paid for it and it is a one of kind so we are pleased with it. Glad to know what it is though
