Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I know many of you are anxiously awaiting a new mobile version of iKC. In preperation for the beta roll out here are a few FAQ's that might help.

Is this going to be available as a downloadable app for iKnife Collector?

This project will ultimately update the current mobile version for iKnife Collector. We're not building downloadable apps for the iPhone, Android, etc. Rather, we're improving the mobile version so nearly all mobile devices will be able to access iKnife Collector much more effectively.

Will the mobile version include "x" feature?

We're going to include as much as we can, but the new mobile interface will not contain every detail of iKC. But, many of the most-used things will be included, like the Activity Feed, Status updates, Forum, Blogs, Photos and Groups etc.

In short, there will be some flexibility in what you see, and it will be a big leap up from what you see now, but there will still be some details that won't make it in our initial version. Of course, more features may be added after the initial release.

Please give it a try and give us some feedback! Thank you!

Now, after all that, I decided to try something.  I attempted to upload a photo.  Since I keep my photos on an external SD card in my tablet to conserve space, I was not able to access them to add.

Other systems may be able to, but alas, not mine.  Any that I could have on the tablet's memory, itself  should be available.

Just an additonal observation.

Do you have the same limitations in posting, like I do?

Thanks for the review above, that is helpful, although I am not well versed with the differences between machines. In other words what works on one may not work on others.

I beleive photo uploads is not currently supported but it will be eventually. If you find a way to do it that would help to know what it is.

But this feedback helps and maybe we can get some additional feedback from folks to get a full picture of what works and what does not.

I hope Alexander is going to find this version user friendly in his travels.  My travel issues were not related to the site, they were related to the limitations of the netbook and the network I was using.  Turns out, if I had just signed into GEC's network inside their building, I would have had full capability, well...I will know for next year

Leaving the netbook home, for the upcoming PA trip.  Just taking the tablet so I can do some more experimenting with the mobile site.

Well you will get a big charge out of this, we had a new member Michael with a Smartphone and he loaded 3 pics, chatted, and the loaded a profile pic. It was amazing all on Mobile!(he was at the Hospital with his wife)

Smart phones have different capabilities. There's a special e-mail address, listed in the settings, that is supposed to allow uploading of photos. I tried it once with no luck. Also, my tablet doesn't have a camera, which limits some of its capabilities. I was trying to figure a way to at least add a default Welcome greeting with the tablet, but until the toolbar is available, it's just text.
Hoping that someone will post a workaround...

JJ,

You know I am illiterate when it comes to the mobile devices.  On the tablet you dont get the toolbar above the text box?

No toolbar, Jan. I guess I could use the "uplaod files" button, below, if I needed to attach a photo, though I don't keep a lot of pics on the tablet. I would like to be able to have a stock "Welcome" pic to use with the mobile site.

I have a I Phone, will I beable to access this site on my phone?

You "should", Robert. You may have to use your browser to find iKC and then bookmark the site on your phone.
Jan, while "playing around" with different browsers, I found one that shows the toolbar, but I'm not able to upload a proper photo.
Still trying...
