Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

When the Plastic Tortoise shell handle broke on my new Work knife I was bummed. But not deterred from ever using it again. So I went through my box-O-wood, and found some Cocobolo. The colors lend themselves well to the remainder of the Tortoise shell handle. Oh yeah, I forgot to say I am only putting the wood on the butt half of the knife. So I remove symmetrical amounts of the plastic from each side of the knife and formed a piece of 1/2"x 1"x 2" piece of the wood to fit the butt of the knife.

Tomorrow, I will drill the holes for the brass pins I left in place. Then bisect the wood and sand down to 1/8" thick. If I can get all that done early enough, I will epoxy the wood to set overnight.

There you go!  That is going to look very well together

Thank you Jan.
I hope it does.

Alright, almost done. Yesterday I got the scales cut to size & drilled for the brass pins. After some profiling I did a test fit.

I noticed when fitting to knife the Shield side has a noticeable gap, I will simply fill that with a sanding dust/epoxy mixture, or not. It is after all a sub-$20 knife. Below is the knife with the scales glued and a light coat of Mineral oil applied overnight to bring out the beauty of the wood.

I will find it very difficult to drop this on it's butt end & it breaking again.  Thanks for your time.

Very good Brad, you have a custom, one of a kind knife right there and it is back to be used again!

Looks good, Brad.

Now I am thinking I should have done the whole handle. The wood feels warmer to the touch. Eh, next project.

Nice job, Brad, I like it a lot.
