Anybody guess the story behind this picture wins a free Rough Rider Muskrat. If nobody can guess, I'll tell you the story in about 2 weeks. I don't expect anyone to really guess, but who knows you might get lucky. It will be fun trying.

They were young men, just 18 months apart.  Growing up in a small farming town and the best of friends.  A knife was part of their everyday lives and each carried his with pride.  Somewhere around the ripe old ages 9 and 10, they even left scares on each others toes playing mumbly peg.  Time moved forward and the oldest was about to graduate.  He made the youngest swear he would stay in school and find them a good college.  After all, he would be home from the war by then.  Letters passed between them mostly to the soldier and it was always good to hear about the folks at home.  When he did get a chance he wrote back,  always ended his letter with What College are we going to.  He was out on a 5 day patrol, his mind wandered and he thought, I haven't heard form that little so and so in weeks!   Well maybe he is out college shopping.

When he got back he slept, got up took a shower and when he got out onto the grounds he heard his name , turned around and saw someone running at him.  He was tired...drew his knife and then realized he was looking at his boyhood friend. Years later the younger admitted, he didnt know if his friend really was going to stab him, after all this wasnt the college they were looking for

Jan, that was truly a great story, and I am glad you replied, I thought this would be fun. BUT its not the story. Sorry.

That was an incredible story!

Well not sure exactly what that knife is, but it looks to me to be a demonstration of a classic fighting position for hand to hand combat.

or

Either that or the man at knife point has just reported to his superior that the pipe tobacco is missing!

Good guess - but not close yet.

This is fun!  Lets hear some more stories

A gambling debt was owed, and it was going to be paid up before they went back into combat. The End.

Anyone else care to guess the story behind this picture. I think someone will win the Rough Rider knife. A nice mint Rough Rider Muskrat. Contest ends on Saturday Aug 3rd.

How about a hint?

OK Craig, here is the hint - YOU are close.

He is showing how he dispatched a VC?
