Just came across a 4 Line Camillus Hobo knife from WWII on eBay. Talk about a fake.

I told the seller we was wrong on so many levels. Let's see if he takes the listing down.

We should have a place to share counterfeit knife listings to let the unsuspecting have a fighting chance

Here is the Japanese Hobo they are trying to pass off as 4 line WWII Camillus

Well, I guess we have now! Its a shame folks feel compelled to do that to earn more money. What were the red flags?

Number one, that style of can opener did not exist in WWII. Number two, this is a spitting image of all the junk hobos that were made by various makers in Japan starting in 1955. The plastic handles, scissors, saw blade, and clip blade are all typical of the Japanese hobos and I have never seen them on a Camillus knife.

Here is a picture of a couple Japanese made hobos. They made them is various sizes from about 2 to 5inches The smaller knife did not have forks and spoons.

That was fast. The people running the auction pulled the item and thanked me for pointing out that the item was listed incorrectly. I just saved some schmuck $70+

I will admit, I have been leery of having a discussion based solely on fakes. I have seen this turn too ugly on too many occasions. I agree that while it can save some folks good money on bad knives. It somehow always tarnishes the reputation of a good seller also. People make mistakes and the above knife was pulled when the mistakes were pointed out. So lets see where this discussion goes. I would prefer it, if we do not make remarks about specific dealers, or reduce ourselves to destroying credibility of anyone. So lets use this for information purposes. Tobias, Great work on letting what is apparently an honest seller know his mistake..

I would have loved to see those "4 Lines" on the tang of that knife. (I see now where you had already posted about the seller ending this auction)

Yep. He killed it in about 30 minutes. It had about 2 days to go. Some had placed a bid of $69.95 on the knife. (1 bid). The seller had 99+% feedback and several thousand transactions so it was probably an honest mistake. (Might have been a wrong picture or just bad info from someone else) either way they did right.

I understand your point Jan. Plenty of honest sellers get hood-winked and wind up passing along a counterfeit without knowing it. The honest ones pull it when the problem is pointed out. the not so honest ones, pull it and relist later. I'll probably monitor this guy for a few days and see if he re-lists this knife. If he does, I'll report him to eBay. If he doesn't I'll see what else he has to sell and maybe buy something!

I do have a question though..What is the eBay policy? I mean do they just look the other way if someone is known fake? Here is what I would see and that is simply follow eBay policy, whatever that may be.

eBa's policy is pretty strict. The person could be kicked off of eBay. You can't sell counterfeits.

So you can't sell known counterfeits..OK that makes sense and in this case these people acted quickly and did not know.

Well here is my next questions, so say you complain to an eBay Seller and they say no its not or just do nothing and keep selling. What happens then? What other recourse do you have?

LOLOLOLOL... first off i gotta say im so hapy to see the fake catches! awesome!..im loving it!!..

whats funny is i have had like 5 of these japan hobos pass through my hands and right to others.. if anybody who collect camillus at all bought this thinking real.. thats sad.. but i could see the first timer ding it.

and TOBIAS i had my number up to 30k saved..in actual returned fake knives until ebay made it so hard with how you have to leave feedback first before you can see the winning bidder..so now i have to wriote them after they win and its tough. it can be fun..you help an honest seller thats awesome...but actually get a guy to get his cash back..and burn the fake artist..even better!
