Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

This is the most recent addition to my "acquire a knife a week" challenge I have set for myself.
I have heard these referred to as sliders, slide knives, and otf knifes. Which is best description. The knife has no makers marks or even a county of origin on it, just the two companies being advertised.

There are a couple of knives that make up the OTF (out the front) family

Gravity knife:  The blade isn't assisted with a spring and falls freely out the front when: pointed toward the ground and you press a release. The release is then pushed to a lock position and the blade locks in the open position. Upon unlocking the release and pointing the blade to the sky or pressing it against a surface will then return the blade to its safe position.

Slider or OTF:  A latch, stud or other device is attached to the blade and the blade is pushed forward using this device which follows a slot cut in the handle. The blade is pushed forward until it locks in place.   The same lever is then used to retract the blade into the handle. (similar to the way a box cutter works)   These are normally called OTFs.

Double Action OTF: If the blade isn't spring assisted, that is; you must manually deploy and  retract the blade using the release as you would  a box cutter, then the knife is a double action OTF.  These are the ones normally called a slider because you are sliding the blade back and forth.

Single Action OTF: If the blade is spring assisted and the blade automatically deploys when the latch is pressed but must be manually returned to the handle, is is called a Single Action OTF.  These are often called Automatic or Auto OTF.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Keep us posted on your "Knife a Week" project.

Will do
My name is Bobby and I am a knife addict. Last week I got three Rough Riders. Today at Lowes I could not, in good conscience, pass up a case mini blackhorn for less than $11. I don't have a problem I can quit anytime... Just don't want to.
