Just wondering how you guys stand on filework.

(not my picture, came from http://makestuffwithyourhands.files.wordpress.com)

Like it? Don't like it? Just the blade? Just the handle? what're you thinking?

Personally I like it as long as the rest of the knife isn't too busy. I usually don't like it on Damascus because it interferes with seeing the pattern in the steel.

Don't like it on a busy patterned handle either (like burl woods or similar)

But it seems to match Cocobolo very nicely, and some of the micarta's go very well with it.

What say you?

I like it on some knives. It just depends. And yes, not so much that it gets too busy.

I like file work but most of my knives are without it.

I agree with you, Alexander. So long as it's not too busy, I like it.
