The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
So it seems we have become a topic, or the result of one anyway LOL
For those of you that know me, you know I dont go to the other forums. I belong and I get alerts if our name is mentioned but I choose to be here.
Long story, condensed version. there was an issue with a club knife for them by Queen. Someone brought up that Queen does a live chat here and low and behold...we have new members. Welcome to you all.
What I found interesting was the comments regarding iKC and the membership.
"Ya, I went over there and looked around as soon as you mentioned that. All I can say is it seems like the people who hang out there are... how shall I say this... a little off. Read through that forum and you see no real complaints about anything. I'll go, but I don't expect a warm welcome."
"I joined, was instantly greeted by some online members, and saw the same members in the chat box bidding each other a good night as someone was going to bed. They were friends, mentioning that they'd be praying for something I missed ,and seemed nice to me. Didn't read any of the forum though. I Wonder how many members it has and why Queen would select them for this event, though I understand why they wouldn't select EDCF'
"I didn't mean that they were not nice folks, it just appears to me that they seemed like they went way out of their way to be overly polite to each other. It's like a knitting club, but with knives. I could be wrong, but it seemed like a real honest exchange of ideas may be shocking to them. I got the same feeling I get when I pull into a little town in WV and people peer out from behind the curtains and I suddenly realize... I don't belong."
Over the years we have been called many things, but this is the first for knitting club. So those joining us from there, again...welcome. Yes, you will find a tight knit community, you will experience friendship and a family atmosphere. No, we are not a huge community...for us it is not about the numbers but the people, the atmosphere and the knives. I promise no one will peep out the curtains at you, well unless your in JJ's diner LOL.
We dont go out of our way to be nice, we make the choice to hang with nice folks

Manx has got it right , it is what makes this place different.
I don't seem to get my point across properly. I'm not disagreeing with you Manx.
Nevermind.I give up.
I do get what Alexander is trying to say...constructive criticism is an important part of any trade, and hearing new ideas expands one's skills, and being "overly nice" about someone's work can be almost as damaging as being overly critical, and I agree...but while I know where to go to find criticism, it's nice to know I can come somewhere and hear positives too.
Alexander, I am sorry I also got your point. I also feel you see the criticism here but in a more construction manner. You see the folks saying just not my kind of knife, I dont like the blade shape, I dont like how they do business...ect. I think my point was you dont see the berating of a maker or a collector.
I can appreciate what Alexander is saying. I recall the last time we were talking to Ryan Daniels and I felt a little uncomfortable about offering up some constructive criticism, not about his knives but about his website. I will turn away from buying a very respectable knife if I can't navigate through the website or find what I want on the website. He took the criticism very well and I believe he knows he needs to improve his website. But this is what we can do. We can meet a maker, tell them about knives we would like to see or changes we would like to see, without being rude about it. And I say that because every other forum I have been to has discussions that inevitably are reduced to flaming and profanity and general rudeness. We don't put up with that here, which is why I like it here.
I don't belong to any other knife forums, I have what I want here. I feel I have maid some great friends here and want to spend all of my computer time with them. I was in a fishing forum but all they did was run each other down so I quit. If we get members from other forums all I can say is "Welcome Brother or Sister".
I believe Alexander's frustration is justifiable in relation to we are more forgiving as a small group towards the knife manufacturers. Without feedback, any issues we may have will not be addressed going forward. Continued improvement, a necessity of survival for any Mfg company. Our concerns about quality will only improve their product.
Well the word is out.....we are SHARP peoples !!!!!!!!!
Welcome to any new members....
You pretty much nailed it. We shouldn't forget that although we love those who make knives....they're still selling a product. They're making a living over us. And if that's a symbiotic relationship (one where both parties benefit) then that's great.
However if it's only the manufacturer that profits because he can deliver good with low quality control and we still cheer him/her on then it's no good for us.

Them thar folks might have been peekin' out the windows in them thar hollars but at least they weren't peeking in! I have been on some other sites that all they do is fuss at one another and just get plain rude. I just enjoy knives and discussions it's still ok to disagree but it can be in a rational manner. The way I see it all of us have different opines on every subject known to man, if I don't like it I just keep my opinion to myself. I like iKC because it is a friendly place and what little time I get it will be enjoying the friendly atmosphere here...
and Proud to have you here with us Bob!
I do want to point out that the intent of the other forum was to be disruptive during our Queen Conversation this week. We will see but rest assured we will have some fun
