The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
A wonderfully confused article on the BBC about the new ban on Zombie Knives . I have no interest in these rather garish things but I am at a loss to see how this will make any difference to the situation in the UK .
It seems to be a matter of someone saying " these things are dangerous " and then the government bans them and we all go and have a nice cup of tea .
Carrying any slip joint with a blade of more than 3 inches is an offence .
Carrying a slip joint with a blade under 3 inches is an offence if it is used as a weapon .
Carrying any fixed blade is an offence , unless you can show good cause , fat chance of that I think .
Carrying a knife with a locking blade is an offence whatever the length of the blade ,... Leatherman anyone ?
My point is which bit of the current legislation doesn't cover Zombie Knives .
The new legislation , banning the sale, manufacture, rental or importation of zombie knives will take effect on Thursday. Anyone caught breaking the law will face up to four years in prison.
So your average zombie knife aficionado couldn't carry these things legally or use them as weapons legally as things stand . The only difference is you can no longer rent one ?? I guess you can still buy one until supplies run out ? of course you won't be able to carry one around but then you never could .
I am probably too old to understand these things .
I hope the criminals and drug dealers read this notice and decide to hand in their zombie killers at the next amnesty .

I am as confused if not more. Zombie killer by definition are usually large fixed blades. Well over 3 inches and a fixed blade is very well covered by the laws in place already. So here would be my thought if they were doing this here.

So I am thinking folks were using the reasoning that a zombie apocalypse was their good cause??? Now they can no longer use that in court???
You could be right Jan , or..... the government has been taken over by zombie's and they are frightened of zombie killers !!
Especially the ones in green !
Link to original article which I forgot to post above ,
see there was the built in defense "defending yourself from the undead"
I haven't checked any stats but is the murder/assault rate "high" in proportion to the population where you live? You can't have guns so I would think the weapons of choice would be knives, especially kitchen cutlery, and tools.
Also I understand that air guns are extremely popular in GB. Most of them are more powerful than a .22LR cartridge and the distances are increasing. Will they be banned next? Is there any talk of that?
Just curious.
Michael the law for air rifles in the UK is ,
The legal muzzle-energy limit for air rifles is 12ft.lb and for pistols, 6ft.lb. You do not require any form of licence for sub legal-limit airguns. For rifles producing more than 12ft.lb,a Firearms Certificate (FAC) is required. Air pistols that produce more than 6ft.lb are prohibited.
I have used 22lr pistols and rifles but that was a long time ago when we could still own such things but I can't remember the muzzle velocity of hand .
Crime statistics for "knife crime" , I don't like the term personally , are
There has been a 12% decrease in crimes involving knives in the last five years, according to police figures for England and Wales.
However, police recorded 28,664 such offences in 2015-16 - a 10% rise on the previous 12 months.
There were 214 suspected homicides in England and Wales where a knife or sharp instrument was used in 2015-16. The number of deaths has varied between 187 and 237 in the past five years.
I guess the following statement can sum up UK knife legislation at present ,
"Safeguarding minister Sarah Newton said the ban would "keep communities safe".
I don't know how , but if she says so then it must be true !!
The safeguarding minister would really hate that pic JJ , really really hate it !
LOL, less than 3 inches and non locking, can they be banned now because they are green??
214 suspected homicides! Are you kidding me?
67 homicides in my state's four largest cities (2014 stats).

I've thought of that quite often. I believe there is truth in your statement. But I've also been sternly warned many times that I am generalizing; I'm going down a slippery slope; that playing violent games is not reality, etc., etc.
I must admit that when groups of people are killed I'm more shocked at the outpouring of grief, of the population's "surprise", of the why? why? I have a cynical attitude. Something is hypocritical here.
Needless to say the "concept" of violence is prevalent everywhere even in reality on a daily basis. It's now part of us, like the air we breath.

Violence on TV! Violence in magazines! Violent video games! Violence in movies and videos! A birth to death indoctrination to violent behaviour and not one liberal actor, talk show host or media talking head even mentions the damaging effects of these things on the human psyche! Oh wait, these things make BILLIONS of dollars for said gun and knife banning libtards.
I totally agree Billy. When you see something constantly it becomes normal for you, whether or not it is reality
Wowza .. not even sure where to begin to respond.
The vast amount of resources wasted banning something already banned.
Resources: It takes a vast amount of time & effort to draft & pass a law. The process involves innumerable people .. all receiving a paycheck for their time spent. Here in the state of MO .. for each & every proposed law .. a bill has to be drafted (that is specifically one of the things my wife does for the state of MO ..&.. she is hardly the only person involved in this stage of the process). The bill must then garner support .. our politicians talk to one another .. trade favors .. etc .. all on the clock. The bill then has to be presented to the house side of the legistlature. Further discussion occurs .. all on the clock. It eventually goes to a vote of acceptance .. on rather to consider it .. drop it .. do more studies .. etc. All on the clock. It may eventually even go to vote for actually becoming a law. Then .. the same ..or.. similar process occurs on the senate side of the legistlature .. all on the clock. Understand .. EVERYONE is on the clock .. ea individual politician & their entire staff & the staff of the house / senate. Literally .. hundreds of people.
Oh .. and let's not forget the lobbyist (my late father-in-law was one). Would you believe .. they are also involved .. from before day one !!!
By the time it goes from concept to law .. HUGE resources have been expended.
I would put to you .. would not those same resources be better spent …. improving education .. healthcare .. benefits for our veterans .. .. .. .. a very long list.
.
And Leo brought up the prevalence of violence .. in everything. Literally to the point where it is no longer shocking .. it is acceptable. Until perhaps .. it is seen in real life. Then & only then is the populace aghast.
.
I'll end as I started .. not even sure where to begin.
