Dang, I accidently busted an old family myth about my uncle's broom corn knife-Sigh~~

The story-- A long while back I posted a discussion about my uncle's " handmade" broom corn knife-

http://iknifecollector.com/forum/topics/my-uncle-s-homemade-vintage...

Today, I was doing some research on an old O.V.B knife I have made by Hibbard, Spencer, & Bartlett, a wholesale/ retail hardware firm based in Chicago that later became True Value Hardware.Anyhow, while searching knife images, I found an image that made me say, Hey----I took that picture !!  Led me to a site about broom corn knives where indeed the 2nd pic was a scaled down version of my original photo!!

Further investigation with a magnifying glass on my knife revealed a very faint logo very similar to one I found on an old saw  online--  My uncle died when I was 10, and my father and 2 older brothers swore my uncle made that broom corn knife--BTW, that broom corn knife design was patented in 1911 by H.SB. & Co. in 1911..Anyhow, my original photo, the scaled down pic I found, and the saw logo.

Just be nice and keep it your secret from the rest of the family??

Your just to good a tesearchet for your own good. lol

Don & Michael-- Don, I can't tell my father as he has passed--As to my two brothers, I wouldn't lie if asked, even though my oldest brother passed the knife on to me, but neither would I offer the information except in my records after I myself have passed on. Still, it is a knife my uncle used to use extensively, as evidenced by the photo.

Michael, you have hit on my first thoughts after the discovery-- Dang, I would have preferred the myth and the family lore-- When research comes back to bite you in the butt-- Still a family treasure, although maybe a little less so--Hence the sigh !!

It still is a family treasure, used by someone you love.  Print the truth, put it with the knife and dont tell unless asked...LOL that would be my path
