I am going to wait and see what my second issue of the new Knife Magazine Looks like before I jump the gun. I loved Knife World. Most everything about the new version is different. Its going to take some getting used to.

Not ordered yet but come November its as good as done. If nothing else keeping track of Bruce Voyles is well worth the asking price!

Just got in mine yesterday. I know I may have a somewhat biased opinion, but I think it looks fantastic. An excellent update and upgrade to a fine magazine.  Now bigger and better than ever.  We have lots of great material and articles coming your way, so I think you'll really enjoy KNIFE Magazine!

i received mine and glanced through it will be reading it tomorrow

Overall I really enjoyed the first edition, although if I had to mention any negatives it would be that I found it very odd to see a review of the Leatherman Wave.  The Wave came out in 1998, was redesigned in 2004, and has probably been the #1 best selling multi-tool of all-time for the past 15 years, so seeing a review of the Wave as if it were the latest and greatest was a bit odd.

Hi!

Typically Woodys reviews are not always on new pieces.  Typically they are on working knives of all different shapes

and forms.  But the comments are always good to hear!  Thanks.

I understand about the Wave review, but at the same time there are still a lot of people that don't have a Wave (yet) -- I'm one of them, sort of -- & I actually found that review helpful (especially in regard to the thing's weight -- I owned a Wave but returned it because it was too slippery & ended up purchasing a Charge instead).

Knife reviews can be weird in that a lot of them get written before the knife is put into production & released to the public.  Which means that the piece being reviewed is either a prototype or part of a sprint run (to use the Spyderco term), & the knife itself may or may not be an accurate representation of the knife a consumer might actually buy.  These can be the most frustrating for me, because sometimes I'll see a knife reviewed that I am completely fascinated by, but that doesn't get put into production for a year or more following the review.

There's the publication's review schedule delays as well, often taking an issue or two before something like the SHOT show or the Blade show reviews come out.  Oh, & what's Blade currently publishing -- their February 2016 issue?

And then there's those knife reviews that occur seemingly late (maybe they happen around the time the knife was actually put into production?), or very obviously late (one publication recently ran a review of the Ontario Freedom Fighter 6; this was one of my first knives purchased after I started getting into knife collecting, & I believe it was my first Ontario purchase ever).

Okay, brief rant over.  What I can say is that I'm happy to see articles in Knife Magazine by Steven Dick & Abe Elias -- two favorites of mine, & I seriously hope to see more articles by them & others on the more contemporary side of things (tactical & bushcraft, but I really appreciated Steven Dick's history of knives as they relate to food & every day uses).  Any Brian Griffin articles coming up, by any chance?

I also have to say that I appreciate Knife World's commitment to discussing knives that may no longer be in production & are therefore not really commercially viable.  I'm not really a fan of such knives currently, but many of the knives I collect now will eventually go out of production, & many of the companies themselves will one day vanish.  Moreso, though, I appreciate the magazine's commitment to knives for knives' sake, & for the collectors' sake.

I write for & edit the North Star Blade Collectors monthly newsletter, I know how hard it is to keep going every month (on a very small budget with very few contributors).  While not a major player in the knife publication industry, I can say that I appreciate very much what Knife World has done, & what Knife Magazine is setting out to do, & I'm looking forward to my next issue already.

I'm glad to hear the positive comments!  I have been writing for Knife World, now KNIFE Magazine, for over seven years now and its been a great experience to assist with the growth and expansion of the magazine.

Some upcoming articles you will hopefully enjoy "Dead Left" include the companies of Southern Grind and Spartan Blades, veteran knifemaker Pat Crawford, as well as many others I am working on as much as possible in the hours beyond my day job.  I know the other writers are working just as hard as I am to make this a truly great magazine.

Enjoy!

I am so thrilled with this first issue of Knife Magazine!  I got it yesterday.  I have not gotten to read everything yet but, so far, I love what I have read.  The review of the Leatherman Wave was well written (I own a Wave and I agree).  For anyone that is wavering between a Swiss Army type multitool and a Leatherman type, this could be helpful.   I always loved the "Whut Izzit" section and this was a great one (for those that don't know Bernard Levine... google him, he is a legend) Mark Zalesky's article on "A.G. Hick's Riflemans knife" is phenomenal, and by the way, CONGRATULATIONS MARK!!! great job!!. The "Letters from the guild" was also a great feature, I look forward to more and the Letters from the A.B.S. too.

A CENTERFOLD !!!!  wait, no, A BEAUTIFUL CENTERFOLD !!! well done!  I was thinking it would be good to post centerfold photo online (say on a Facebook page) with watermarks for people to see, but I digress.  I always enjoy reading news about knives... "Knife News" was well done and hit the spot. The article "The Emerson Patriot" was great.  Again, written by another legend, hero of mine "Steven Dick" (another good one for youngins' to google and learn about). I have met and talked to Steven many times as well as spent quite a bit of time talking to Ernie Emerson.  I am happy to see that Doug Ritter got a place to keep us informed and active about knife rights.  Doug and I have spoken at length.  We are lucky to have him battling for sensible knife laws.  BRUCE ON THE LOOSE !!!! Again, anyone that does not know who Bruce Voyles is that collects knives has homework to do. Great great great....  The "How To:" section on sharpening convex edges was helpful to me and a great idea.  The magazine looks great!  I was thinking how when I am on the computer I am bombarded by advertisements and it is a pain in the but, but in this magazine, I am even loving the advertisements!!! Again, congratulations to Mark, and I will promote this in what ways I can.  What about a feature called something like  "Show your stuff" that highlights one maker.  That maker writes and photographs. a one pager that allows them to show their work and briefly talk about it.  That could be a win-win.  Just a thought.

I still have more to read ...

I know my subscription is current. Never got the first issue!

Wouldn't you know it, the premier edition showed up in the mail yesterday. It's an excellent magazine no doubt about it.

Bruce Voyles is, without a doubt one interesting writer. I especially liked his article about his involvement with the knife collecting business. In a short article he cleared up a lot of puzzling info about organizations, shows and publications. I've been collecting since the early 1980s when the business was taking off and I always wondered about the twists and turns that happened.
