Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Over the last week I acquired 4 blade blanks for customization. The materials they use for their "S" line of products are 440C, manufactured in China.

The ones I selected are pictured below:

The top one will definitely receive a Stag taper handle, the Guthook blank will receive a Purpleheart Wood scales w/ Pink liners(for the younger niece). The bottom 2 are to be more detail specific in the handle materials. I would like some ideas on the materials for those, but keep in mind my skill level when making those suggestions. Novice.

Part Deux:

The knife Fairy brought these to me Tuesday:

Brad, Sorry it took so long to post back to you. I dont get to get on here as much as I would like. But if I recall right, I think I did drill to 1/8". And hey your stuff is looking really good!

Pete,

Did you drill out the pin holes to 1/8"?  Because my blank came with 3/32" dia holes.

2/22/14 Update

Okay had some time and motivation this morning. Cut out and epoxied the Walnut burl to the Subhilt yesterday. This morning I cut out and epoxied the Buffalo horn to the forward slot.

Then I cut out some Ironwood scales for the Hunter and epoxied those.

Looking good, Brad! Now you've got me anxious to see the knives once they're finished!

Thanks Ron.

Today, I removed the clamps and sanded the materials down to 1/32" above the bolsters. Will continue from there by hand.

Lookin' good there, Brad!

Today I spent whatever free time I could spare rubbing the subhilt with sand paper. Got up to 400 grit.

Spent less time on this but stopped at 400 grit also. Need to get some finer paper. I really like the "Fire" in the Ironwood grain of this handle.

Added more 5 more blanks to Post.

Friday I selected a piece of Osage for the Raptor. The Osage has a warm quality about it without being dark like the Rosewoods. I cut the shape out, drilled out the pin holes and slit it down the middle, epoxied some Yellow liners and let it set overnight.

Saturday I then epoxied the scales to the Raptor and let it set until Monday.

Monday morning I thinned the handle down a tad, not much. I prefer a fat handle on a small knife, don't know why I just do.

Have been sanding up to 800 grit and ended up with this.

This should suit my sister's needs.

Oh I think you are right!  It should suit her fine!  I like a fat handle on a smaller blade also, feels like it adds more to the knife for some reason.  That wood sure came out beautiful!

Those yellow liners set that Osage wood off beautifully! And, I too like a phat handle on a shorter knife. But, what the hey! I like a phat handle on a longer knife, also! Phat is where it's at!

Nice work, Brad!
