So I made my first slipjoint

I love slipjoints, but have never taken the time to make one. This past year I started looking at websites and forums related to these knives. Unfortunately I completely fell in love with these traditional beasts, resulting in a larger collection than I should have. Had to convince my wife that it was all for research.

The only thing my wife ever wants for Christmas is one of my knives, so I decided to make a slipjoint for her. I still have a lot to learn before I get comfortable with these, but I am happy with the first.

440C blade and spring, 416 Stainless liner and bolsters. Covers are Tortoise shell rescued from an antique hair brush that was falling apart, combined with 18K gold pins, escutcheon and stops at each end of the covers.

I have posted this on another forum, but hope it is ok to post here as well since I have contributed very little here. Hoping not everyone here has seen this before, don't want to flood the intranetz with my junk.

If you click on the pic icon present @ the top of the "comment" box .. 2cnd from left .. and load pic files that way .. the pics will be visibly displayed.

............... as opposed to .. "attachments".

Note: That same "pic icon" is present for comments, status posting, setting up discussions, ...... , etc. It is exclusively the feature I use when uploading pics.

!!! .. Wow, is that ever a knife beautiful .. !!!

I agree with your wife. I knife made by my husband is always going to be my choice for a present. I have to admit, you must have done some fantastic research because this is sweet!

While that is an impressive list of materials...they way you put them together is beyond impressive for your first slipjoint!

PS, feel free to post anything you like, I dont get out to the other forums much
