Recently I received my Benchmade Triage, model 915SBK-ORG.  At the time of this writing I have been carrying it for 4 days.  The Benchmade Triage comes in no less than 28 different configurations of blade shapes and coatings, handle colors, and the AXIS ambidextrous locking system with manual opening or with auto opening.  This is a Benchmade black box product so you can buy with confidence knowing it is a quality – made in the USA – knife.

Originally introduced at the 2011 SHOT show, in 3 years this knife has won many awards and, in my opinion, taken the top spot for any professional rescue type of knife/tool.  Perfect for anyone in the military, police, EMT, fireman, SWAT, farmer, camper, outdoors adventurer, or (in my case) the motorcyclist.  Having been trained and certified in Motorcycle Crash Scene First Aid I wanted a tool that would be useful in any highway emergency.

This knife features some fairly aggressive G-10 handle scales which is a very huge plus if you happen to be working with gloves on and blood or other slippery materials on your hands.  It has a very nice pocket clip which allows for deep pocket carry, a lanyard hole to allow for attaching a lanyard or a carabineer clip, a very sturdy replaceable carbide glass breaker tip, a rescue hook, and a 3.5” modified sheepsfoot blade.  Some models feature a blunted squared-off tip.  The steel is N680 steel for rust resistance and has a Rockwell hardness of 57-59.

My knife came from the factory razor sharp.  The main blade deploys easily with the thumb studs or with a flick of the wrist.  The blade, or pivot point, needed no “tweaking” and the blade is perfectly centered in the handle.  The weight of the knife is just over 5 ounces so it may be on the heavy side for EDC for some people.

The rescue hook is also incredibly sharp.  It slices through 550 paracord, boot laces, seat belt nylon webbing, even denim, with ease.  It also deploys easily with a thumb stud and although it does not have a positive lock it does have a positive detent and thumb gimping for a secure grip.

The replaceable glass breaker is pretty impressive and in spite of the fact that none of my neighbors were willing to allow me to test its capabilities on their car windows, I have no doubt it would work extremely well if needed.

The only negative comment I have about the knife is that the G-10 handle scales are so aggressive and the pocket clip is so secure that I have no doubt that using the pocket clip would result in some nicely shredded pockets.  I would not use the pocket clip unless I first removed it and sanded down the G-10 underneath the pocket clip.

So who would want to purchase this knife?  As I said before, anyone who might find themselves in any type of rescue situation.  I am not a Benchmade collector but I would think that any Benchmade collector would want to add one of these knives to his or her collection as well.  Or, for anyone just looking for a sturdy, quality, EDC knife.
