I just have to share this !! Back on December 1st I posted a new discussion "Help dating my Kinfolks Flame Edged Super Hunter". Imagine my surprise to get home from work 2 days ago to find a message on my answering machine from a gentleman from Hickory, North Carolina. (BTW I live in Illinois). He had taken the time to look up my name and city from Ma Bell, and called to tell me about his experience with the knife. In the message he stated he had purchased his at the base exchange in Alaska back in 1964-65. He further stated, that he has used it to skin bear, moose, and even lynx and that it works great!! He left me a return phone number, and I hope to be able to contact him tomorrow to thank him. I'm a retail manager, it is the CHRISTmas season, and I haven't had a chance to call him yet in what most people would consider normal calling hours. If I learn anything new, I will add an additional reply .Personally, I thought it was awesome for him to take the time and trouble to do this!!.

Nice folks attract just that..other nice folk. We keep up the family oriented "flame-free" conversations and topics and the membership will continue to rise. This site is my 1st stop when I get time for a break from work or the 'Honey-do-list". This is MY knife family.

Called my new friend Leo a couple of hours ago. He is a warm, friendly gentleman aged 79. We talked as if we had known each other for years. In short, a heck of a nice man.He purchased his knife in 1946 at the Air Force base exchange while serving at the Dew Line Radar Installation, about 275 miles NW of Anchorage, Alaska. He told me a story about him and a hunting companion, who had each shot a moose. Leo had finished skinning his with his Kinfolks Flame Edged Super Hunter,while his companion was still working on his using his Buck knife.He asked to borrow Leo's to finish, because it skinned that much better.!! He also told me an interesting fact. His has 4 pins in the stag handle, while mine has only 2 pins. In all my research on this knife, I have never seen any mention of pin variations.All in all, a very welcome and surprising early CHRISTmas present !!

Very true Sue, I could tell that he loves that knife, and that he had skinned many a critter with it.He also told me that his is in need of some minor repairs. If any of our members can direct me to a source, preferably in his area, I will contact him and try and return the favor to him. BTW, he had even enlisted his daughter to help him find my phone number so he could contact me in the first place !!

From what he told me, he made the mistake of using his knife to pry open a box or something. I believe the blade is still straight, but that he loosened up a couple of pins in the handle.I think that is all that it needs without seeing it.
