Just curious what others think of finding the "bargains" on e-bay.

Here's one I just got and am very pleased with.

Nothing wrong with bargains. A lot of nice knives pop up on ebay.

Cory is right there is nothing wrong with bargins.  What I usually go to ebay for is that one off knife I cant locate anywhere.  I just keep checking and one thing I have learned over the years, eventually one will show up

It can go both ways. An item is a bargain when you know what it is and what it's relative current value is, knowing that can definitely produce a bargain. Being both a buyer and a seller on Ebay I feel I know my way around online auctions pretty well and have gotten some screaming deals. I've gotten most of my collection from the bay, check it daily for new listings to this day, and other than a few occasions have done really well. Ya gotta know what you're lookin' at though, if ya don't you can get burned.

I have gotten several bargains off eBay.  I tend to shy away from very expensive knives on eBay because I don't consider myself expert enough to be sure I'm not getting a fake or a rework.  One thing I watch out for is auctions for brands or patterns that I collect that are approaching the end of the auction and no one has bid on.  One particular knife I got was a Shapleigh Hardware fish knife that no one else bid on.  The seller had misspelled Shapleigh in the description so no one looking for that would have found it.  I found it because I was looking for fish knife.

I think , contrary to what you will hear on a lot of forums , that ebay is great for buying razors . There are so many available so cheaply that if you miss out on one then there is likely to be another one along soon . Now expensive razors are different I would be reluctant to spend a lot on a razor from the bay but cheap ones to play around learning sharpening with , ideal .

Like Syd I check the Australian EBay every day and 'occasionally' a bargain comes along. My leanings are to traditional slip joints and fortunately (for me) interest in these is limited here in Aussie, so often the bidding isn't very competitive. I picked this beauty not long ago for $16 AU  (about $11 US) and was the only bidder. By the way, if at all possible, I never bid until a few seconds before the end of the auction - I can't see any point in chasing the price up days before the auction's end.

Dang, it might be worth paying shipping from Australia to get prices like that. An IXL Barlow like that would go for much more here on the top side, (of the world). I might start checking the down under Ebay listings just to see what might be available there. Nice find Derek!

Nice one Derek!

Good points by all! Nice pick Derek. I search through quite often to find the "sleepers" that nobody seems to be looking for as well. And I agree as well, try not to bid until less than 30 seconds....if you can stand to wait that long.
