Gotcha.  Yeah, that's on SHC site.  That's a great one also.  I use the link for the Case Collectors Club tang stamps.  Can't ever have too much information, that's for sure.

Sorry about that.  Apparently I made an extra letter in the web add

Hey George, what site is that you are trying to share?  It simply shows up as nonexistent in my browser as well.  Is it on the Shepherd Hills website?  If so, you might need to be a member of their collectors club to view it?  Just guessing.

Good afternoon!  I am a CASE novice as well, but only have a few days of research behind me so far.

I did briefly post a new discussion inquiring about a "V" in front of the number.  I deleted the discussion after finding an answer to my posted question.

I was not able to access that site either, and have not had the chance to search for the 'secret code' yet.

But I did find some additional information about that "V" and a couple of other letter codes as well...

As I am understanding it, a letter prefix the the handle portion of the case knife code is a 'modifier' to the handle materials.  Further defining it if you were.

As Mike commented, the "V" is a special designation for Vintage.

The few I have learned so far:

"V"        Vintage.  I have seen it mostly on stag, but also bone and horn.

"A"        Appaloosa.  A color/pattern variant of the handle material.

"DR"     Deep Red,  A color designation of the handle material.

"R"        also Deep Red.  A color designation of the handle material.

I also found where the blade steel can be modified, as well as other modifications done to a pattern...  The pattern tweaks are usually designated by one or two ZEROes in the number, but just before the model portion of the numbers.

There are undoubtedly more modification or specific designations that I have not seen yet, but I thought this might help someone.

I should add that I am a relative novice as to Case knife collecting.  I jjust started picing them up a couple of months ago.

shame you can't access the site, Mike.  It has a wealth of information.
