5172 should be Stag

6172 should be bone

First, I want to thank everyone in this group who has helped me along the way in my Case XX knife collecting - the level of knowledge and experience of many of the members in this group reminds me of the "Genius Counter" at the Apple store (only better!!). This question will probably be an easy one for some here - in the realm of the Case "Clasp Knife" I have come across 2 patterns : the 5172 and the 6172.  Some are called "The Buffalo", others "The Bulldog", still others "Case Classics Clasp", but I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason to which pattern numbers are associated with the various names. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance. - Jon

A new Trapper. That's right, I said Trapper, not Peanut. LOL!

Don Grump01,

Glad that I sorta know someone who actually won a S.H. lottery.  Sad to know you hardly had a chance to hold it in your hand before you had to give it up.

Yeah I couldn't remember which shield it had.

Actually just located the email from Case Customer Relations confirming that they had never made the Peanut pattern in the Navy Blue Bone w/ Red Shield - it was dated 7/16/2013.

Hey Mr. Hines - There happens to be one of the 2010 CCC Blue Bone Peanuts for sale on Ebay right now, and it does not have the red shield - it has the Case Collectors Club shield in steel grey.  I haven't been able to locate the email I received back from Case when I inquired about whether or not they ever made the Peanut pattern in the Navy Blue Bone / Red Shield configuration - I just remember that the answer from Case was a definitive "No" - but I'd have to guess it was about 12-18 months ago.  I suppose it is possible that they have made them since then, but I've never seen them in either the SHC or SMKW catalogs. Cheers - Jon

They made a Blue Bone Peanut, for their new Members in 2010, I can't remember if it had a red shield though.

Very nice Jon! I always liked the red shield with the blue bone!

Well, the link to the caption seems to work IF you have MS-Word on your computer. BTW, I should mention that this is NOT a complete collection of the Navy Bone w/ Red Shield patterns from Case. I know it is missing at least the Small Saddlehorn.  Interestingly, I confirmed with Case that they NEVER made a Peanut pattern in this series ! Seems like that might be a smart SFO project for some enterprising person (I wonder if you could get Case to make the SFO EXCLUSIVE !!)
