Yea Alex, those were some old carbon fteel knives, probably with a low RC. value on the hardness. Somewhat soft by todays standards, I guess. Very, very sharp though!

I love this knife.  Here is my Northfield UN-X-LD#722112 Autumn gold Jig Bone.  This is my first of many to come of the GEC line.  I will be putting this knife in one of my article coming out later this year.

Robert, heat makes corrosion go faster, and the knife is most vulnerable by the edge....so what your grandfather told you makes some sense.
