Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I thought I would start a topic to get the ball rolling. And its timely for me as I just completed the toughest knife build to date. It is a 3 blade whittler with a tapered spacer and two backsprings.

Ken,

The knife turned out really nice, you did a great job on it congrats.
I yet to try a three bladed folder and it will probably be my hardest one to make.
Maybe I'll call on you for some advice? Todd

Todd,

Anytime, would be happy to talk knives. Goes for anyone else also. I learned a lot and still do not have all the answers on multi-blades but learning.

Far and away the toughest knives I've built have been 3 blade (2spring) stockmans. I've only
made like 7 of them and the first couple were pretty crude, seems like everytime I attempt one I've
got to psych my self up for a while to tackle it.

Ken,

Why are three blades slips 5 times harder to make then a two blade! LOL. By the way, some really nice looking Elk stag on the trapper on your home page.
That's a beaut.
Since I don't make folders I've never tried a slip joint of any kind. However as har as fixed blades go Getting the grind right on an Ulu was a right pain not to mention forging the bevels and inside grind on a Korambit. Sorry for the bad picture on the Ulu I was trying to rush it to the new owner. It will be a while before I make another one as it cost me 7 stitches and a gouged grinder wheel. I wasn't able to get it quite the way I liked since I had to finish it injured. The blade caught on the 600 grit belt and pushed it through my finger. at least it was so swarp at that point that I didn't notice I was cut till I reqached for the blade on the floor and saw the gushing blood.

Very nice! I have yet to try to make a folder. Perhaps in the future I will give it a try. I'm sure it will try my patience. I am still trying to learn how to make straight back knives. I would however like to se some tutorials on making folders. maybe some of you guys will do that one of these days, Regards JR
I admire anyone who has the patience for making folders. I like to pound them out, sharpen them and stick a handle on! When I received an order for a Tom Brown style tracker I had to make 2 just in case. Getting the tricky little curved hollow and plunge grind was a challenge as well as a functional saw blade on the back! Next time I'll advise to order the real thing as I should have charged a lot more!
What was hard about it? I don't know because I have never made a folder. It looks good, by the way.
