Packaged it last night .. gave it to the postman today.

Geeeeeeeeez .. did this take longer than I'd anticipated.

I did not realize how large a knife this was till I reassembled it.

I re-profiled the cams & polished the result.

I also polished the cam followers .. the mating areas of the springs.

It is now operable as a butterfly knife ..or.. balisong.

There is enough spring tension left to retain the fully closed or fully open positions.

At the same time .. it can be opened or closed as a normal butterfly knife.

It is now ..via USPS.. officially on its way back to you, Greg.

Enjoy

Dale

Dale,

I am very pleased you shared with us the process on this one (as with all your mods).  Even though you sure make it look easy I know better.  I cannot wait to hear the response when it gets home

well, I'm already excited and just to let you know this will be a thoroughly used work knife, the length and and heaviness of the blade will make it great for some of the larger cutting tasks, can't wait.

man that it is a lot of work, i'm glad i kept all the pieces and didn't screw it up beyond repair, I really appreciate the work.

well I got the knife in the mail today, And I want you to know then it passed several tests, first I took it to the police department and asked them if they thought this was a butterfly knife and after examination they said no, and then I took it to the Texas state troopers and asked them if they thought it was a butterfly knife and after examining in it they said no and then I took it to a state prosecutor and asked him the same question and he said no.

They said it did not qualify as a butterfly or gravity knife because there was enough tension to keep it closed or open and that it required some degree of force to keep it open or closed.

Then it passed my main test that is a pair of zip cuffs fastened around two steel poles and how easily it will cut through the police plastic handcuffs and it performed very well.

Then we took a almost frozen chicken and it cut the chicken up very handily through the bones and tendons with no problems as it is a very large knife as you well know

You did a excellent job and I really appreciate it and you were able to reach that perfect balance of enough tension on the knife blades that legally it does not qualify as a butterfly knife or a gravity knife and so it is legal probably in most states except for its size but it is a fantastic job again thank you very much I really appreciate it

And since the Bible says that the laboror is worthy of his hire, I think it is appropriate and fair if you send me a bill as I would be very happy to pay you for your time and effort as you accomplish the task that I could not and your workmanship and willing to share all the steps on this forum were very much appreciated again thank you very much

Greg .. I'm pleased you're happy with the result.
As per our original agreement .. no $ .. I do this for fun .. seriously. I'm just sorry it took so long.

Greg,

Sounds like you gave it quite a workout and it got to go some impressive places with you so far.  I am not only impressed with D ale.  I am also impressed with your leap of faith to have someone you don't know help make this knife what you desired.  Kudos to both of you.  I am so glad Dale got to enjoy the rebuild modification and that both of you gave iKC the opportunity to watch it transform.

Enjoy the knife and give us an update on use and pleasure?

Nice job Greg. Looks like you took your time and did it right. That is something to be proud of.

well again, thank you, the knife will get a serious workout, I'll keep everyone updated, there's only a few knives that I've actually broken, right tool for the right job keeps a knife in better shape, although i have reground a few tips because of not learning that lesson. the design of this knife always amazes me

thank you

greg

well i never thought i'd see this knife used for this, just a whim i threw it a squirrel about 10 feet away and scewered that little sucker to the tree. i'd post pictures but don't wont to affect the squeamish. lucky toss. this knife constantly surprises me. instead of using my case sodbuster i used the paragon to notch calf ears all day.

great job dale
