Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Over the last week I acquired 4 blade blanks for customization. The materials they use for their "S" line of products are 440C, manufactured in China.

The ones I selected are pictured below:

The top one will definitely receive a Stag taper handle, the Guthook blank will receive a Purpleheart Wood scales w/ Pink liners(for the younger niece). The bottom 2 are to be more detail specific in the handle materials. I would like some ideas on the materials for those, but keep in mind my skill level when making those suggestions. Novice.

Part Deux:

The knife Fairy brought these to me Tuesday:

I still like it and think it just makes it easier to feel comfortable using it

Finally got around to an O1 steel blank that Jan sent me some time ago. She picked it up from Premium Knife while there. It is a small utility knife with finger grooves.

Only 2 minor issues I had were the forward most groove was unfinished and the cutting bevel was uneven. I can fix both of those issues.

I decided to use Kingwood with red liners. This is going to turn out nice.

I believe your correct Brad LOL!  That is going to be nice.  This is one of the new USA made blanks, made right in NC I think

Got the the other side glued yesterday and finished her up today. Used 1/4" dia Stainless pins and Brass tube.A little time with 2 files for the Finger grooves.

Then 220gr - 400gr - 800gr sand paper and a little tongue oil. I will correct the bevel tonight and this is done.

Turning out quite nicely there, Brad.

Brad,

That really is loking good.  Will this one go into use?  I am interested in how it holds an edge

It is sharp enough, damn near took my thumb off. Worst possible scenario happened when drilling the holes for the 2nd slab for the handles. Clamp came loose after the drill binded with the tang of the knife and my left thumb was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yikes! That definitely looks like an impediment to text messaging...at least for a while. Did it require sutures, or did duct tape do the job?

No sutures, nothing to stitch back on. Bacitracin ointment and change the the bandage once a day.

That was the night it happened, it looks much better now.

Oh, now I can see what happened. You just sliced a fillet o' thumb right off. I thought, from that first pic, that it was a gash...as in a deep slice. Neosporin is your friend! Lucky you didn't nick the bone! Oh, one more thing...OUCH!

Double OUCH.

Bounced off the bone. Scared the heck of out of me.
