The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Over the last week I acquired 4 blade blanks for customization. The materials they use for their "S" line of products are 440C, manufactured in China.
The ones I selected are pictured below:
The top one will definitely receive a Stag taper handle, the Guthook blank will receive a Purpleheart Wood scales w/ Pink liners(for the younger niece). The bottom 2 are to be more detail specific in the handle materials. I would like some ideas on the materials for those, but keep in mind my skill level when making those suggestions. Novice.
Part Deux:
The knife Fairy brought these to me Tuesday:

OMG Brad! Damn that looks like it hurts. Keep it clean my friend, we need you healthy!
Having just browsed Premium Knife Supply's site and this knife blank is actually the standard Asian made "Madd Maxx" S5 B3 model out of 9CR14MOV steel. Not O1 or made in NC.

Finally got around to an O1 steel blank that Jan sent me some time ago. She picked it up from Premium Knife while there. It is a small utility knife with finger grooves.
Only 2 minor issues I had were the forward most groove was unfinished and the cutting bevel was uneven. I can fix both of those issues.
I decided to use Kingwood with red liners. This is going to turn out nice.
Brad,
Wow was that it good thought to look it up but no go buddy. This is 440C and it is patterned after the Mad Max. The way to tell is that this one had a stone wash in the handle area and the Mad Max does not. At this time all the USA mades' have a stone wash finish in the handle area
Now that I sounded really smart about all that....I am a fake. I just happened to be at Premium when I read this and had Cayce Price look at it with me
Good job, Jan !!!

Okay then. It is good to have someone with inside information. I just happen to be browsing their online store and saw the same pattern, right down to the forward finger groove imperfection.
