Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I know I'm not the only one.  I love the Scout knives.  I don't care if you call it the Camillus C-4 pattern, Boy Scout knife, camp knife or what have you; I think it is one of the greatest and long lived patterns out there.

Just about every knife maker in the world has made one so no matter what brand you collect you should have at least one Scout/camp/hobo.  and if you don't have one and you go hiking, camping, fishing or some other type of outdoor activity what knife are you carrying in you pocket and what have you done with it?

Here is one of mine.  It is the Case Scout Jr. (one of the few that probably won't be carried.)

I'm bringing up the rear. 5 Scouts and 0 Hobos. But I haven't been collecting as long as most here.  LOL  Time and $$$ will certainly take care of that. The sad thing is those two items never seem to match equally!

Just a few of each

Speaking of hobos, I really only buy  the ones that are cigar pattern and with a bail.  I've never got around to crossing over and picking up a trapper pattern hobo (such as the one made by Case)  If some maker comes out with a trapper pattern Hobo with a key ring and then I'll snap it right up.  It would be easy enough to do.  A small eyelet on the pommel of the center portion that holds the blade and then a simple key ring and you're set.

Go..Go...Miss Jan. Numbers of knives, don't always mean enjoyment. I have only 4 Scouts and about 12 Hobo's.  I love all of them though. Chuck, you'll get more as time pass's, you are not for behind. Just enjoy....

Before Case added the spoon we collected these.  Donnie is not as thrilled with spoon version so we pick one up every once in a while but only if we find them at the right price

I kind of know what you mean, Jan,   I was all set to buy a Case Hobo with the spoon until I was it in person,   The knife was wider than it was tall.  There was no doubt it would require a sheath to carry because of its size. It just seemed impractical.  Plus it has no way to attach a lanyard or key ring.  And finally no hobo can afford it.

The vintage ones with spoons are my favorite. The ones I use have to have everything, openers, fork, knife and spoon. When, I take it out, it has to do everything or why bring it. I don't use a sheath for it but my Hav a Sak or Possibiles Bag, carry's it with the food and drink.

This discussion has been very active since it was started so I decided to go ahead and start a group called Knives of the Great Outdoors.  Please join me at:

I've opened the group to all knives used in all outdoor activities  So not only does that include camping but hiking, sailing, scuba diving, mountain climbing, canoeing, hunting, fishing, and so on.  Heck, if you want to include your golf knife or your gardening knife. I'm okay with that!  The group is not necessarily limited to implements with blades but as there is also a group called  Outdoor Living, perhaps the review of your rucksack, new lensatic compass or that Coleman stove  is more appropriate there

So that makes cool two groups that people who collect Scouts, Camps, and Hobos should consider joining!
