We have them in the Ohio River here, when we catch one - sometimes snag them, we let them go right away - we never keep them.
A friend of mine shot one last year, in this same area, that weighed 200#. Yes they are good eating and sell for high dollars at the market. They are cooked in gravies, fried or ground up into balls,"Boulets", that can be cooked either way. Some even grill the steaks on the pit with butter and lemon pepper. They are ugly, though.
Those Alligator Gar are some butt-ugly critters. I've seen some big ol Texas Gator Gars that are just downright frightening looking. How big do those Gars get down there where y'all are fishing, Robert? And, are they decent to eat? Good pic, btw!
They had never been bow fishing before, so it was a teaching lesson. They won't need me anymore. I didn't charge them much, to show them. I really had a pan fisher-women to see about. I had to run back and forth, wore me out. It all worked out though.
Great pic Robert, yes they sure look proud of their catch.
Yes, it is big sport around here. I guided some young men a few weeks ago, they did well. Let me find my pictures of the hunt. They were after Gar fish.
I have hunted and shot Bow alot, but I have never Bow fished, I heard it was lots of fun, I just never tried it.
