Paul,
What an awesome trip that must have been. Lots of wildlife to watch and take home some food also. Good times!
Robert,
Looks like you had yourself some fun also. Good work!
Johnny and Jeremi, Cant wait for you to post pics of your trips :)
Sorry guys,no pics yet but went out riding and hiking in Sunol CA and gotta great workout and enjoyed creek and nature trails on a warm sunny day.I then went to Lake Chabot and hiked w/a friend in the oak/eucalyptus/redwood filled area, saw deer, lizards, and other stuff.
Will do Robert. Got a trip coming up to Washington state. Maybe we will see some elk.
If anyone is worried about the pigs I mentioned, don't worry. They were plenty big enough to take care of themselves.
Wow Paul, great hunt and pictures. I love the story of all the wildlife activity also. It really makes for a great hunt. That's some fine eating, a wild hog, I cooked some in a stew just the other night. My girls tore it up. Please keep us posted on any other hunts you make, we enjoy to hear and see all outdoor adventures.
Hey guys. I haven't squirrel hunted for years. Looks like you had fun. My dad used to take me hunting with a .22. I did just get back from a hunting trip near Brady, Tx today though.
I was sitting in a blind watching over a clearing with a deer feeder. I was observing a squirrel collect corn from around the feeder, pack it away to a nearby location, return to the feeder for more corn, pack it off, over and over. After a while, 22 turkey showed up and started helping themselves to some corn too. This really upset the squirrel and he became frantic amongst the turkey. A black buzzard circled overhead then landed nearby to see what was going on and the turkey promptly and collectively charged the buzzard and ran him off. The turkey went back to feeding and then I noticed something had alarmed the tom. His neck was stretched as high as could be and then a sow feral hog and three pigs entered the scene and began helping themselves to some corn. There was no running the pigs off but I was thrilled to have an opportunity at my first hog. I took the sow at 130 yards with my .257 Weatherby Mag and handloaded ammo. The pigs ran and I followed a blood trail for a few yards then submitted to the ranch foremans previous dirctives and called for help to chase the wounded hog. He brought a dog and we found the hog less than 100 yards from where she was shot.
This morning in the blind, I had the opportunity to watch a barn owl from just a few yards away. What a way to end a sucessful hunting trip. I harvested the sow and two deer total.
Squirrel Season Starts Saturday.
It's time to get the old 22. rifle out, dust off the scope and do a little practice. There are still a lot of leaves left on the trees, so it's gonna be a challenge to scope out those little tree rats.
I'll keep you all posted.
