I was given this knife by a former female employee about 15 years ago along with a Kinfolks Flame

Edge Hunter and both a Kinfolks and a Cattaraugus WW II military isssue knife which might suggest

the general vintage. She had inherited all 4 from a bachelor uncle who was somewhat of a world

traveler. She gave all 4 to me as she had no use for them, and knowing my love of knives knew that

I would treasure them.I have been stumped on the vintage of this Lisaaki Jarvenpaa Oy as the only

markings I can find are the company name and what I guess translates to made in Finland etched

on the blade. As the company has been in business for 100+ years and I don't speak Fininsh I am

at a loss. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. BTW, knfe measures 8 " overall with a

4" blade.

This link discusses some time periods for certain horse head castings.

This is an knife for sale on English ebay. It's hard to tell what it may go for with the high freight cost.

Just Google the company name and go through the links to research.

John....

What ever the age and worth...it is a cool looking knife.  I am going to guess and say the early 70's to late 80's.  Keep us posted on what you find.

Hi, your knife is a Finish Knife. Maybe worth $90.00 to $125.00. I don't have the book here but the name is Collectable Knives of Finland by Lester C Ristinen. You can get it from Amazon about $35.00. It is a great referance book. I will try to get back with more info.

John

Hey, I've spoken to Les Ristenen many times, he's a member of our knife club (North Star Blade Collectors)!  Funny & very knowledgeable -- definitely a good source for information on Nordic knives.  Unfortunately I do not have contact information for him directly, & a brief internet search has not yielded that information either, but I can vouch for him as someone who knows a large amount about Scandinavian knives.  Do a thorough search for him, maybe in online Scandi forums -- or maybe someone on one of those forums could help!

I cant help on the daye, but I see old horseheads at the antique gun shows often, usually very overpriced. I looked at one recently that I could not convince the seller that it was from Finland. He was sure it was from Turkey because of the rinosoris on tbe handle, funny and true.

John, try going to Kellam knives website. They selll vintage puukko and have for sale and sold a bunch of horse heads. They dont date them but you can see the changes in horse detail, it gets simpler as time goes by. The handle material is also a clue. Maybe if you send them a picture they could help.

hello DLKG.  would love to hear more about your NSBC knife club sometime.  please drop me an email, or post a piece and share with us.  thanks tdp.
