Hear! Hear! That IXL is spectacular!
That is a Beautiful Dagger Jim!
I just got this 1850's IXL dagger and it is a favorite now. Beautiful knife
I am currently hunting for a new "favorite" hunting knife. I have a bunch of great knives that I take hunting with me but have yet to find one that has become my "go-to" knife. I have a wonderful knife that features multiple blades and is very versatile. Unfortunately it also is a little heavier than what I find ideal in a knife. I also have a fixed blade that tends to be what I reach for. It's small and sturdy and features a guthook. I will probably keep taking knives out on dates until I finally fall in love.
When you think of your "go-to" hunting knife, what do you value about it?
Feel?
Weight?
Features? (gut-hook, saw, multiple blades, etc)
Size?
I have four current favorites, or at least these are the four I've been carrying daily for awhile. Case Carhartt Caliber lockback w/Zytel handle, (great knife, won in a previous IKC contest, unappreciated in my opinion), and a pair of '70's Camillus-made Bucks, a 301 & a 307. It's been an every other day thing on the Bucks, as I've been switching between the two. I also have a Hen & Rooster 2 3/4" equal ended pen in blue bone I really like that I carry in my watch pocket daily, (does that make it a favorite?). All of them but the H & R are carried in belt sheaths.
While not my favourite knife it certainly is my most used knife.

I suppose my favorite would have to be my late father's WWII Cattaraugus 225 Q Quartermasters knife. He was a SeeBee in the Nave during WW2. He served in the Pacific Theater. I've carried this knife on more Boy Scout trip than I can remember.
It's in better shape than most you see but it definitely has been used. His initials are stenciled on the sheath: E.J. ROPER
