Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

A fine example of “even though you CAN, it doesn’t mean you SHOULD”.
The value of this knife is FAR exceeded by the work it took to clean up, and bring it back from the dumpster fire condition it was in when I came across it.
I even re-did the little triangle notches on the spine of the blade.

I still want to put furniture wax on the handle and saya (is this still called a saya even on a fish knife?)

I get that.  I've used a few coats of tongue oil on wood like that as an initial finish/coating.

I do have Ren Wax already.  I have found that it is great when there is already something/anything to work with (or on metal), but it didn't seem to be ideal on raw wood.  putting it on over the other wax should be great though.  Thank you!

I'm with Jan, I use the Ren-wax on my knives.

And wow!  Nice clean up for sure.

use a product called Renaissance Wax instead

I did find one that had a similar blade tip, but the handle was square and straight.

I have seen square handles, octagon handles and only a couple of rounded ones (all were straight).

But yes. Seems like everything is real cheap.  I did not notice a brand sticking out though.

And for what it's worth - there must be just shy of a dozen of these Floating Fish knives on Ebay at the moment - all less than $25.00 - and they all look like they came from the same dumpster as yours originally came from. Needless to say they make what you did to yours even better!

Interestingly though, not one of them has a blade tip like yours. The rest of the blade is identical with the fish scaler spine and bottle opener notch, but none of them have that distinctive "Cheese Knife" tip yours is sporting.

Many also perport to be Valor brand knives, but not one of them show any Valor branding, so it's hard to say really.

All this to say again that while this may be lipstick on a pig - you have brought out the higher potential of an inexpensive (err, cheaply made) knife. You see a gem where others see a rock, and that's why I appreciate your art and craft so much.

Ha! I love it. Just think of it as another fantastic practice piece that is now priceless! No one on the open market could ever appreciate your skills and effort like we all do here at iKC. Profs to you bud!
