Oh yeah, to answer your question, for a regular slip joint .005 may be too much. You can start at .005 and see how it feels. If it's too loose just go smaller and hammer it tight. You can always easily make it tighter. You can use regular leaf type feeler gauges for this operation too but you need to cut a slot in them to get around the pin. Hope this helps. Dan

Dale,
When the time comes and I make a folding knife it will be held together with screws. I believe the owner should be able to disasemble a knife for cleaning or maintainance. Honestly I dont understand how makers can hammer pins into some of the works of art I have seen. Just my opinion. I am happy to share with this community of the like minded. I am glad this tutorial helped you Dale.

a regular jacknife ... stockman, pen knife, ...

I've never ""successfully"" dis-assembled and re-assembled a pocket knife. Pinning one back together is something I've been enthusiastically unsuccessful at.

I'm finding this tutorial quite informative.

Thank You !!!

Dale,

Shim stock I use is .005 inch. K&S sells that too. Whats a traditional slip joint?
