The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I found this one in AZ. It had been lost in a PD evidence room for over 100 years. It was said to have belonged to gunfighter and the elk skin rig still contains the original green river scabbard on the inside.

very nice knife, the blade looks to be in great shape, being locked up for 100 years didnt hurt that one.
Wow that's nice. I'd love to have a design like that as a user (with more of a single guard & of course far less valuable).
You should see if there is a sheath maker than can reproduce that whole rig, I'd love to see rigs like this for sale for other knives.
WOW! I could only ever dream of owning something like this.
Creig, I am fascinated by this beautiful old knife and it's history.I have a few questions---Do you know the name of the jail or the city where the knife was found??--Also, to me, the monogram looks more like a cattle or horse brand I am no authority on reading cattle/ horse brands but there are Western resources that are--A pic might help identify the brand, which might lead you to the gunfighter. Just my thoughts on the subject.
Awesome find
Creig,
Could you post a better shot of the tang stamp, please?
That is beautiful! That leather looks to be in pretty good shape for as old as it is. I really like the shape of that knife - the handle and the blade!
what an amazing find and a beautiful knife!
