The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
This was a farmers working type of knife made anywhere from the early 1920's to the 1950's. Both Swiss companies as well as German cutlers made these knives. The steel used was a high carbon type of steel. The scales were of a durable fiber. Sometimes the bolsters were grooved or decorated but usually they were plain or smooth. They come in a couple of sizes. This one is 104mm's long in the closed position. There were other tool selections that could be had as well like, a wood saw, a hook bill pruning blade, a marlinspike or sacking needle, an electricians blade and sometimes a plain awl. Animal horn scales were available as a higher quality option.
