I was thinking how tough it would be to give up the use of a knife or reading about them, for even one day, I got the shakes just thinking about it. Maybe if I develop a 10 step program, I will be able to bring my addiction under control. I need those who are not suffering too bad ( yet ) to make suggestions as to what those 10 steps might be.
Disclaimer:
I take no responsibility for what may occur to others who choose to follow the suggestions for a KAA program. And, I do not guarantee that I will do anything to cure myself.

I was re reading this today and I laughed until I had tears running down my face! I am standing by my original post
1) well it is always "admit you have a problem"...ok that is as far as I can go...I dont have a problem
You might be a knife addict if-- you drive 500 miles to visit Smoky Mountain Knife Works but consider it as a religious pilgrimage.-GUILTY
You might be a knife addict if --Someone asks how many knives do you own? A-you have no earthly idea B- You reply, counting the ones I have on order?? C- I dunno, what day of the week is it? GUILTY
BTW, I'd volunteer for the Sargent-at-Arms gig if he gets to carry a knife to protect himself. LOL
It's so sad, Steve. But, as addictions go, once addicted, we are afraid of the results that may occur if we attempt to go straight. I think there is some therapeutic advantage to a person caught up in this.
It is said "A knife purchase a day will keep the doldrums away." But, I can't attest to that, yet.
As one of the disciples of the Lord of Blades, I thank you for your dedication.
I have a bit of a different story. I have never tried to stop but somewhere between coming off a mountain with a message and buying a photo capable tablet I heard a voice....If you build it they will come, Ye shall all collect knives!!!!
Great story Craig. I like the extra touch of playing on the "Beverly Hillbillies" theme song. Now I can't get it out of my head. ♫ Let me tell you a story about a man named Craig......♫
Cass gets upset when she hears from the bathroom...."I CUT MYSELF, I CUT MYSELF!"
My story?
♫ Let me tell you a story about a man named Craig......♫
It was a bright sunny day, and I could spot a knife being carried for miles. It had been a while since I had acquired a new knife and I was desperate. I could tell by the way he walked he was carrying a knife. Right pocket. He walked with just a slight short step with his right leg. I quickly tore holes in my clothes and rubbed dirt all over my face and arms. I threw myself at his feet and begged...."PLEEEASE dear sir, can you spare a knife for a broken down old man?" "I haven't had a knife in weeks!" Cass came over and said "Craig, you're pathetic, get up were going home".
I went cold turkey. They say I was found at the door of a gun shop in the middle of the night, mumbling to myself. My belt and shoes had been taken by someone. No one had reported that I was missing. No ID was found on me. So, the law held me for 72 hours and turned me back out on the street. I stumbled around for I-don't-know-how-long. A punk came up on me wielding a knife, demanding that I give him my jacket. As I was taking it off, I discovered my billfold. The sight of the knife had triggered my memory of who I was. I talked him into going to an ATM to get the cash to buy his knife. Being myself again, I held the knife on HIM, got my stuff back, had a good talk with him about the direction he had taken in life, bought him a better knife, and sent him on his way. Remembering that I had a wife, I called her to come get me. She asked "who ARE you? " After promising to seek help for my knife addiction, she reluctantly came for me. I'm doing better now. She lets me play with my knives sometimes. What's your story?
