The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Allright. All my projects are temporarily on hold because of things like heat treat/waiting for materials.
But I still want to play around with steel. So I've decided to design a knife by comittee.
Here's how this works. I need input from all of you, as much as possible. Everyone who responds please give me the following information as to what you'd like to see me make.
Steel, I have 3 options,
Next, specify what SIZE blade you'd like to see.
Let me give you a few options,
or something in between, please state.
Bladeshape:
Handle shape
please describe as best as you can. This will be a full tang knife because I already have three hidden tang knives waiting to be finished and they're a LOT more work.
We'll get to handle material later, when the thing has been heat treated and everything. But it could be either standard handle slabs or a cordwrap. Or maybe something in leather? I don't know. Anything cool that would work with a fulltang knife.
And also add any details that you might like.
Once a lot of options are given by people....I'll combine the most populair options into a knife.
I'm really looking forward to hearing what you all would like to see and making something cool out of it.
Also I'll be keeping you guys up to date with pictures about the knife build.

Thanks guys. Start thinking about what you'd like for handles on that. I'm pretty sure I can sell this one so even if I have to invest in something I don't have it should be an option.
Looking great, Alexander! Got some really nice lines on that.
The knife is looking good.
WOW, you did a lot today Alexander and it is looking good. It already looks comfy for the hand
I passed my exam today. So tomorrow it's back to the grinder. Tonight it's staying home with my missus and having some treats and a mindless action film.
And it looks like it'll indeed be handle C.
Next time I'll post on this thread I'll be providing:
- Pictures of the progress on the knife so far
- pictures of the various handle materials I have in stock
This doesn't mean that I'm not willing to order some different handle material for it though. I suspect this knife will be sold (possibly through silent auction) and if that's true then I don't mind investing a little extra for an extra nice piece of handle material.
Desert Ironwood or Curly Maple Handle
Awesome guys. Thanks for the votes! I'll wait at least two more days before I get started on it. (Because I have an exam that I should study for instead of knifemaking on thursday)
And then I'll get started on the grinder
Aren't you all excited? It looks like design C is what it'll end up being! (Aren't you excited Jan? It's the design that you suggested!)
Then we can start thinking about what handle material we're gonna use. So far I've heard suggestions of mainly Bone and Stag. Keep in mind, Stag (especially in this size) is incredibly expensive and I don't have any on hand. I have some Camel Bone scales but don't know if they're going to be able to cover this handle.
C as well
I vote for "C"
