Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Knife makers of the Dutch Knife Exhibition part 7 the final episode.

So now we land on the final few tables that I photographed at the DKE. I hope you enjoyed seeing the pictures even a tenth as much as I enjoyed taking them because if so you had a lot of fun.

The first one today is a maker called Martin Annegarn or MAknives who makes some very cool high precision folders. Martin works from a tiny home workshop but he does some very cool work.

Check out this redifining of "fileworked blades"

Or how about his tactical flipper (with bearings)

And his most recent series which are slipjoints (no lock) but without a backspring

After him we see the table of high end cutlery makers from Rotterdam the van der Heuvel brothers also known as Hill Knives. Probably the oldest pair of fulltime makers in the country.

When they do high end they do HIGH END

Prince Bernhard (Queen Beatrix' husband) was a known fan of their work and it's not hard to see why

But they do a good user/tactical blade too.

Then there is the master at forging Damascus in the lowlands.

Gudy van Poppel can do virtually any style he likes. And he's great at all of them.

Whether it's Tactical folding blades

Or scagel type integral bowies

Hunters either plain or Damascus

Tomahawks

Or tactical neckknives or lightweight fixed blades

As a last entry we've got Aad van Rijswijk who's probably the best Art folding knife maker in the country and probably surrounding countries as well

And one that still had to have the engraving done

Well that was it. I'm fresh out of pictures. I hope you enjoyed it. Love to hear what you think. Or if you have any questions let me know. I'm always more than happy to answer if I can.

Alex, I want to thank you for bringing such a fantastic showing of such unbelievable quality and craftsmanship by some of Europes finest knife makers. The one in the middle of this photograph with the engraved buffalo and what I am assuming to be buffalo horn is my favorite of today's tasty menu! This has been a very great show which you have so graciously brought to us. Thanks again!!

What a great tour and a fantastic glimpse of some really skilled European cutler's work you have shared with us these last few days. After viewing your excellent photographs I think that It would be safe to say that the knife making art is alive and well in the Netherlands. Thank you so much for all the work that has gone into your presentations. Tremendous effort -- Kudos, my friend!

In this photograph I am drawn like a moth to a flame to the knife in the middle The one marked Verkocht (sold)...

What a glorious and gorgeous knife it is! I can certainly appreciate why someone bought it. The African Water Buffalo is a very interesting etch on its bolster. I would be curious to know if it has any particular significance for the knife's maker? I guess I'll never know? Unless, of course, I should ever chance to meet the maker.

Thanks again, Alexander!
