Knife makers of the Dutch Knife Exhibition part 6

Today we're staring off with Sander van der Veld or Field Knives

Sander is a hobbyist knifemaker who recently started. His specialty is a model he calls the PFB or Pocket Fixed Blade. Which is a heavy knife for such a small piece (stock thickness around 4mm if I'm not misstaken) and often chisel ground.

Sometimes with Cordwrap and sometimes with scales

Next is a German maker caller Markus Reichhart whom I don't know much about but he had some nice pieces on his table.

Then there's the big man.

Ed de Pauw is a BIG man with BIG hands. And he's always joking about the small knives he makes.

But as you can see...there's nothing small about his blades.

He has a penchant for bowies and is one of the best in the country when it comes to the traditional styled bowie blade.

As the next piece demonstrates.

Next to him was Erik Markman's table. Erik is someone who is a master at making semi integral BIG knives.

And although his knives have a fancy damascus look to them, rest assured that they're HEAVILY used by some people.

After him we see the table of Toni Oostendorp or Eastvillage knives.

Toni builds one of the toughest user knives I've ever seen. Everything about them is VERY well thought out and he tests his ow blades thouroughly.

In fact, before he starts selling a new model he's usually already destroyed one or two versions of it by batonning, prying and just beating the shiz out of them

His standard model is called the Bullshark. And here are some examples.

Funnily that blue looking one is actually black. but the lighting was a bit weird. This is probably also the only time I've ever seen a damascus version of one of Toni's knives.

The sheaths they tend to come with are made by Martin Swinkels who makes some of the most functional sheaths in the world combining both tough leather and Kydex to get the best of both worlds.

And for desert today my favourite maker in the show. Alfred Dobner is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

And he's an amazing out of the box thinking knifemaker. Most everything he makes is "different" in one way or another. Whether it's his integral style fixed blades (gentleman's knives for sure. Alfred doesn't really make any other kind)

Or his folders which come in a number of cool pattern variations like this springless slipjoint.

The Barrell knife which when unscrewed folds and then completely disappears into the handle

Or is amazing "Fullturn" folder. For which one of the scales has to make a full 360 degree turn to open or close.

In EDC variation

Or a bit fancier

Or just full on dress variation

And the cool thing is, his wife is a knifemaker too. Here's some of the stuff that she's been working on

Not too shabby huh?
