The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
With all the time, effort and expense are you satisfied with your collection? Did you buy the right kind of knives, over the years? What would you change, if you could, in your collecting habits?
These are some questions I think, we all ask ourselves, in private. I know some have large collections, some have small and some have everything in between. No matter the size or the value, are you happy with that collection? I know we have all bought a knife here or there, that was a mistake. I know I have.
The only one a knife has to please is the owner, so I ask, " Are you happy with that collection?"

I'm satisfied with my collection but very frustrated. It is so disorganized; nothing is on display currently; have tons of cataloging to do......so I'm satisfied with what I collected but can't enjoy it at the moment. If someone saw it they would say I'm just an accumulator and not a collector. Time is what gets in the way. Example: it took me almost two hours to get home from work today. A lousy 22 miles - two hours gone forever because some nut ball thought I-95 was the Indianapolis 500!!!
Dave, those are the words of a true collector. One person may spend $500 on a knife and may not love it, while another collector spend $50 and love it. Who is the true collector? I think, the one that is happiest with their knives. Regardless, the price.
Robert, my little "collection" is quite modest by most standards and likely of little interest to anyone. But it is MY collection and I am very happy with what I have. Living on a fixed income dictates that my "collection" support itself, which means selling something to get something else. Each knife has its own story, each is interesting, and all have great personal value to me. Each one is a special friend to spend quality time with and combined together they bring untold happiness and satisfaction.
I never did count my knives. I know I am under 100 for sure. I think.........
Yes Jason, we all want more but sometimes it's good to sit back and look at the overall picture of our collection. I have certain patterns I collect and certain brands I collect, also certain types. I try to purchase knives that fall into one of these categories. Overall, I am proud of my little collection. It continues to grow but at a slower rate than it once did.
this is a great question...im a collector, and i think in that mentality, you're never truly satisfied....you're always wanting one more item. or at least that's how i am, im always wanting more, even though looking at the overall, it's a good collection, but i always crave more. i think thats what makes a collector a collector
John, Winchester is not the USA icon it used to be. Some Winchester guns are still made in the US but some are also made in Belgium, Turkey, and Japan. I think all S & W are still made in the US.
Happy the most part yes-Had two old celluloiid handled knives gas to rust which did not exactly make my day-Have bought a few outside my area of expertise, thinking they were USA, only to find they are now imports- Winchester and Smith and Wesson, for example- Not knowing any better, you would think that these USA gun icons would make USA made knives!!
I am sort of at a standstill right now, not knowing what direction to go???? I am happy with what I have but want to go in a different direction with my collection.
