When you hunt Deer, its a good idea to be where the deer are. Same for Knife Hunting - there are places where knives hang out for sale.

This is just a listing of places where I find knives - generally in my area but anywhere really.

Bill Goodman's Gun and Knife shows - not many vintage knives, but lots of imports and tactical knives. I am going to one tomorrow.

Ohio Gun Collectors Assn-good place to pick up some nice knives that appeal to your taste.

Bass Pro - Cabelos - Lowes (I have gotten 2 Case knives at Lowes) and other sports stores.

Traders World - N. of Cincinnati.

Hillbillys Flea Market - N of Ashland KY

Yard/Garage sales: I don't have much luck at these but some do.

Buying and Selling and Trading among friends.

Knife Shows: 3 are coming up - Central Ky show in Lexington, Knife show in Louisville, KY in September, and the Ohio Classic in Cambridge, OH in October. These are prime Hunting grounds for some real nice knives.

Ebay: My go to place, I get many knives here, and for the most part are very satisfied.

And then Pioneer Village: Wheelersburg, OH - where I went yesterday - Aug 15th. You just might find anything there.

Robert, Thant is quite a good knife story!

The best knife deal I ever made was a Ruanna from someone I never met, in another town.
A worker on my crew was contacted by a friend of his, that was in a financial bind. He ask my worker if he wanted to buy a knife for $25. My worker said no but his boss might. He told me of the knife and I figured it was in bad shaped and I had heard a little about a Ruanna knife, but just a little. I decided to take a chance, and said yes.

The next day, my worker delivered me my prize. It was a Ruanna Smoke Jumper, that was signed and in mint condition. I was really excited after I looked it up on their web site.

I tried to trade it for a $275 Treeman but they said no because it had no stamp {M}. I then put it on Ebay and it sold to someone in Canada for $375. Wow, is what I said. I bought that Treeman knife and a fancy outfit for my wife. Go figure, knife buying....lol

Ken, I've picked some pieces at a Pawn shop. I bought a box of knives for a song and it had a Schrade Pull Ball knife. I have attached pics of it.

I have heard that some good buys can be made at Pawn shops, but I have no personal experience with that.

Good addition to Knife Hunting.

Hmm... eBay is definitely #1 for me, not only for buying/selling but for picking up information.  I'm in Memphis & we do have a couple of stores with knives: Guns & Ammo (tacticals) & Bass Pro.  [I always check out Bass Pros in different locales because they have different knives.]  We have a few gun shows where I have found some really neat knives.  Southaven, MS has gunshows, too.  As does, I believe, Jackson, TN.  Memphis has antique malls where knives may be found.  [Sheffields is the biggest, I believe.]  I always head for the locked glass cabinets.  Has anyone ever had any luck in pawn shops?

Shows, Friend, here, ebay and some great dealers.  Mostly when it comes to dealers I am a pretty loyal kinda gal.  I have certain dealers I go to for certain items.  Some of them we have been buying from for so long if I see it on their site I just call 'em up.  I have had dealers tell me, Jan I think your gonna like that one but lets talk about this other one.  The folks we deal with know our collection and what fits with it and us.

Went to Bill Goodmans Gun and Knife Show in Sharonville, Cinn, Ohio. Not much by way of knives, I bought 3 there and a real nice Cattaraugus from a friend today. Pics to follow. Looked over all the knives at Bass Pro but didn't see any thing I really wanted there.

I'm off to a Bill Goodmans Gun & Knife show today. Most of the knives there are imports or tactical. I might see a RR that catches my eye, or a Buck tactical. Sometimes - there are some vintage knives there, not many. I like going and looking anyway. The never ending "Search for Knives" - after all, I am a Hunter - and yes, a Knife Hunter also.

Great topic Ken! I go to yard sales and estate sales for some of my knives. Estate sales can be tricky. Some are very organized and the seller knows what each item is worth down to the penny. Others, my favorites, are disorganized where the family of the estate has no clue what is in the house. They allow you to go through closets and cupboards they haven't even opened to explore. Make a good find? Throw it in with a couple coffee mugs, an old ashtray, and a worn out hat and you can get it for next to nothing. But take it all by itself to check out and someone will get wise very quickly.

Yard sales in the country generally yield less knives than the city cuz country folks know and use knives. City folks don't know what a knife is for other than owning dull ones that soon migrate to backs and bottoms of drawers. I've found some great knives at yard sales and you can always haggle prices with folks and usually come out on top if you're good enough and know the tricks.

E-Bay is also a good outlet and you can score big if you beat the others like us looking their too! Amazon and other sites are good too.

But when it comes down to it, knives are where you find them. You can find them in the usual places and you sometimes stumble acorss one in the most unlikely places. You have to always be looking and ready to deal with the situation. I always keep a little "mad money" tucked back in my wallet for just such an emergency.

Good luck and good hunting to everyone!!
