The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Since I have contracted EDC-OCD, I have bought a knife weekly. This blog should help me keep track of the incoming items starting 5/21/2013.
5/21/2013 - Today it is a Uncle Henry / Schrade+ / U.S.A. 144
This is a beauty, lightly used and well cared for. Polished the brass up a little.

Today's arrival is a 2009 Buck 110 purchase inspired by Ron Coopers lovely purchase earlier this month. I had been watching the knife he bought on eBay and decided to forego bidding because I had allotted my money to the 144UH in the above pictures. But seeing the 110 so soon afterwards, here, on this site, was more then I could bear. So I perused eBay for another and this one was the best of the lot.
Schrade U.S.A. 153UH - Near Mint condition. Even the stone hasn't been used. Very nice.
Corneta Wotan - from Cesar in Brazil. This is a beast of a knife, weighing in at 14.2 oz without the sheath, 6" blade and 11" over all. The Hollow ground 1/4" thick 52100 Ball Bearing steel blade(56-58 HRC) has a drop forged integral double guard that is very well formed and smoothly radiused into the ricasso. The Kraton handle is as non-slip as you can get. The ballistic nylon sheath is ambidextrous due to the hilt strap is on a pivoting rivet. I can see why the Brazilian Special Forces commissioned this design, It is fantastic. This knife is now in my Ready bag.

Brazilian trade knives have arrived: (Spyderco Manix II Lightweight for size comparison)
I have traded MY Spyderco Yojimbo II for the following.
Corneta Traditional 4" Jack knife with 3.25" Sheepsfoot (Inox), with a nice warm Jigged wood handle, with solid half stop also. Stainless liner and nickel silver bolster.
Miguel Nieto Push Guthook/Skinner, AN-58 INOX steel, 5/32" thick 3" long Hollow ground blade. "Stamina" Wood handles w/ Nickel silver tubes.
Finally, per Cesar's description "This knife is an associate work between Peter Hammer (the blade smith of Wotan Knife) and Silvana Mouzinho, one of our few female blade smiths, for another policemen forces. They produced by hand the prototypes, they was approved, but the order of the state never arrived. So they sell the knives to civilians. My own I bought for their own hands when they opened the sales to the public and they make less than 1000. It came with leather sheath. No cord in handle. Very very rare."
9" OAL, 3/16"(5.08mm) thick x 3.75" Hollow ground blade, I am not sure of the steel used, but would bet it is the same 52100 Ball Bearing steel blade(56-58 HRC) used on the Wotan for the Brazilian Police.
Mostly the trade was because Cesar really wanted this knife & I just didn't carry it often enough to deny the trade. Another point was the knife was designed specifically for self defense and who better than a self defense / knife fighting instructor to own this knife.
The Kershaw was a gift from another salesman.
I had the same Schrade+ question when I started collecting them.
Hey thanks for the info in the +
and a new Kershaw!
The research states that the "+" indicates a shift to 440A and 420HC stainless steel instead of the traditional 1095 carbon steel. I prefer the Old timers I get not have the "+", but if in immaculate condition it is not a big issue. The Uncle Henry's are traditionally a high carbon Stainless, so without the "+", I think just indicates an earlier model.
Okay, Have to ask...What is the difference between Schrade+ and Schrade USA? I have an 885UH that has the +, and a couple 108OT that do not.
Thanks!
