Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I finally put my Barlows in a Box.  I don't really like the box for these knives, I think I will swap out those smaller Coca-Cola knives and find something else for the Barlows, but it's better than throwing them in a cardboard box.

On the left side are various makers including Case, Boker, Maherr & Grosh and others.

On the right are my antique Russells.  All are 1800s.  I have a few more that I need to dig up that are 1920-30 Russells.

I also have a few Daddy/Grand-Daddy Barlows.

Contest:

I haven't had one of these for months and the first one was a lot of fun.

Therre are two here that I don't think are actually Barlows although that is what they were sold as.

Can you spot them?  Remember...I'm talking about what my sick brain says are not Barlows.  I admit that I could be wrong.

First person to pick both with no wrong answers will get 2 Barlows not shown here (both are Prov. Cut. Co., nothing to write home about).

First person to get one right will get one of those Prov. Cut. Co's.

If someone gets one right & then someone gets the 2nd right you split the Prov. Cut. Co's.

Fair? Understandable rules??

Deadline:  5 pm Pacific Time on Wednesday, June 6th...yes 2012!!

Good luck!

Below is the box.  On the left are the various makers.  On the right are the Russells.

Below are the various makers (ignore the few on the right)

Below are the Russells (ignore those on the left).

oh, and I can't count Jan did pick two already.

as did Billy.  Picking JJs correct selection counts as one pick for those who repeat the pick too.

No, top knife was already picked.  See below.  I understand because it looks so different with the iron handles but it really is a Barlow.

Top one on the left and the one J.J. picked with the short bolster.

Robert I thought you were shushing D ale….hahah.  Smart grand daughter there, funny too!

Well, Jan the sixth from the bottom is a vintage Case XX from the 1960s in beautiful Red Bone.  A great example of a vintage Barlow in shape and style.  But it sure does look brand new.  I think maybe it was NOS because it looks new even face-to-face.  So, good guess but no.

For those keeping track under the rules, here is where we are:

  • 2nd from bottom, JJ is right!  Also, D ale picked it but JJ was first.  The short bolster gives it away.
  • Top knife.  JJ’s other answer. No.  It is a jigged iron handled Maher and Grosh that is a classic Barlow in style and shape even though the handle material is different that what was used in the 20s.  I hear there are some with metal handles from German in the 1890s but I have never seen one.
  • The red candystripe, 3rd from the top on the Left.  D ale’s answer.  No, this is a classic Barlow in size and shape.  Again, different in handle material and for purists, the handles are not flat sawn bone so look different.
  • 6th from bottom perfect Red Bone handled example from Case XX.  This is Jan’s.

Review of rules:

I have been letting folks pick two knives.  Once they pick, any guesses are fun, but not official.

So far two folks have exhausted their 2 picks and Jan has one pick left.

One Barlow has been won by JJ so we have one prize left and the deadline is Wednesday June 6th at 5 pm Pacific Time.  And it has been H-O-T HOT out here!  Makes my brain hurt to keep up with ya’ll lol.
