Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I finally put my Barlows in a Box.  I don't really like the box for these knives, I think I will swap out those smaller Coca-Cola knives and find something else for the Barlows, but it's better than throwing them in a cardboard box.

On the left side are various makers including Case, Boker, Maherr & Grosh and others.

On the right are my antique Russells.  All are 1800s.  I have a few more that I need to dig up that are 1920-30 Russells.

I also have a few Daddy/Grand-Daddy Barlows.

Contest:

I haven't had one of these for months and the first one was a lot of fun.

Therre are two here that I don't think are actually Barlows although that is what they were sold as.

Can you spot them?  Remember...I'm talking about what my sick brain says are not Barlows.  I admit that I could be wrong.

First person to pick both with no wrong answers will get 2 Barlows not shown here (both are Prov. Cut. Co., nothing to write home about).

First person to get one right will get one of those Prov. Cut. Co's.

If someone gets one right & then someone gets the 2nd right you split the Prov. Cut. Co's.

Fair? Understandable rules??

Deadline:  5 pm Pacific Time on Wednesday, June 6th...yes 2012!!

Good luck!

Below is the box.  On the left are the various makers.  On the right are the Russells.

Below are the various makers (ignore the few on the right)

Below are the Russells (ignore those on the left).

Lee, that's a great collection. I have noticed the price on those old Russell's on Ebay and they aren't cheap.

@ Lee .. the blade shown has a "matchstrike" pull.  Perhaps, that's what the seller was referring too.

Also, never seen that many Russell's in one spot .. very nice OLD collection !!!

Here is the blade from the 2nd knife from the bottom on the left.  The "Not-A-Barlow" #1:

Like I said, the seller called it a "Matchstike" blade.  I called it a "Bloodletting" blade.  Anyone know what this is?

So here is my take so far:

JJ nailed one of them! The second from the bottom was sold to me as a Barlow but I just can't call it that. The bolster is too short even though the shape of the knife is right.

Plus the blade...I will post pics. The seller said the knife has a "match-srike" blade, but to me the area he is talking about is more like a bloodletting area maybe for hunting or fishing, so when you stick the blade in the blood has a channel to flow out. I could be wrong. The knife is a Friedman & Lauterjung Celebrated Cutlery (1864-1909) blade.

The candystripe is a Case Tested XX and although the handles are quirky for a Barlow I think that's what it is. The shape is exact to a regular Barlow.

Same with the top knife. Exact shape plus the handles are flat like the old saw-cut handles. That knife is a Maher and Grosh (1875 to present). Different, with the jigged iron handles, but I think it is a Barlow.

So JJ has one of em, but there is still one guess to go and one knife to win.
