Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Knife users find all kinds of ways to carry their knives. Belt sheaths, loose in the pocket, knives with clips to hold the knife in or outside of the pocket, shoulder rigs, well the list goes on and on. Our forefathers, of yesteryear, wore neck knives. The knife sheath was held in place by a lanyard or some sort of necklace. I recently saw a survival expert on TV wareing one for his Bushcraft knife. The knife was a fixed blade, about 8" overall lenth. I have carried a knife in alot of different ways but I have never used the "Neck Knife" style. I thought, I'd ask our members here, "how many carry a knife this way and what's the Pro and Cons, of this style of carry"? Thanks.

I think you'd be surprised how much you'd reach for a small necker when out in the woods.

That sounds great Paul. The people I know that use neck knives, really swear by them. I personally, have never used one. It's very interesting, to me, the way people carry and use their knives. When ever I head out into the great outdoors, I like to carry two knives, a folder in my pocket and a fixed blade on my side. I have done it that way for so long, I just wouldn't feel right, any other way.

I'm a huge fan of neck knives.  You can adjust the neck cord to where it is the most convenient for you and your knife is always close at hand.

JJ, how's the neck knife working out? Still a viable option? Would you condider it for self defense or last resort? I would think it would be a little time consuming to get it out of your shirt and unsheathed ready for action. My Colt CT337 is one of my EDC's which I carry in my right front pocket. The clip keeps it riding high for fast retrieval. Once I get my fingers touching it, it is out and deployed as fast as any auto. I have been considering an option for that last measure should I suddenly be without my CT. Neck knives seem like a great choice but I've yet to find one that I would consider as a prime candidate.

I want it easily concealed, quick access, and easy to unsheath but secure when it's hanging in its natural intended position. When I go out I keep my 2 EDC's and a boot knife under my pants leg.

If anyone has any ideas on something that would fit my simple criteria, let me know.

Been wearing the CRKT Minimalist for almost 2 weeks now.

Really like having this one around.  Folks were concerned about it getting in the way, I just drop it down under my t-shirt.  Weighs almost nothing, most times I don't even realize that I have it on.  One fellow, on you tube, complained about the knot irritation his neck.  Remedied that by tying 2 slip knots in the cord and making an adjustable lanyard.

I think that this knife is the best of the 3 that CRKT offer, and is by far the most useful for most general tasks.

I would consider this a self defense knife, but find that it tears down boxes with little effort and works well in the kitchen.

Even with my large hands, the minimalist fits extremely well.  The handle on some have layers of green, while mine is all black.  It is also offered in an all black configuration, but I like mine in the satin finish.

The kydex sheath is molded on the tanto blade but it holds the bowie securely.

Think it's a keeper...

A few years ago I bought my cousin a small neck knife that he wares under his shirt. He won't go anywhere without it. JJ. that's a good looking little knife.

Thought that I'd have preferred the wharncliffe, but the "bowie" seemed to be the best of the 3 (the 3rd being a tanto).
The attached lanyard will be the first thing to go. It's about worthless.

I've been wanting one of those. Well, it's on my list along with a few hundred others.

I have a few that I have collected, but I have never tried to carry one that way.
